Print media, radio, television ...

all these forms of media were important in their time because

they have marked the evolution of technology and the important role that technology plays in
our society. I totally agree with the fact that television is an important invention in our lives,
because it has changed the way we, humans, relate to the society. Both radio and television
enter peoples lives in a way that print media can not do. These categories of media became
complementary to our lives, they are part of each days background and do not require our
full attention; to open your TV does not necessarily imply to literally watch television,
because you can only listen to the news while you cook you meal or get ready for work etc.
Then, television has a certain directness, it provides the ability to relate live the social,
political, economic events and creates the illusion that the viewer is somehow involved in
covering these events. At the same time, television has given us the opportunity to relax by
watching movies and entertainment programs; it is so great to watch movies at home, without
having to pay for them at the cinema.
So yes, television is important, but not the most important invention of the last 100 years.
First place in the ranking on the most important inventions ever is undoubtedly occupied by
the Internet. Nowadays, the print media, radio and even television have been touched by the
phenomenon of digitization. You no longer have to wait for a specific TV channel to
broadcast a movie or a TV show, now you can watch it online, without any advertising. For
my part, the impact of the Internet on contemporary society is much higher than the impact of
television. First of all, the Internet simplifies and eases the daily activities regarding
administrative issues. The user working directly on the computer is able to send at any minute
data to his colleagues, clients or decision makers. All the sent documents are archived and
can be used again any time by anyone who has access to them. Also, information is
transmitted more easily in the online environment; the transcience of information, so typical
for television, dissapears; for example, if you missed a piece of news on TV because you
were talking on the phone theres nothing you can do to rewatch it, while by accesing Internet
you re-read the news whenever you want. Then, the Internet offers impressive sources of
information. With just one click we have access to vast data archives and the most important
in this situation is to know how to sort information and choose the most pertinent one. On
the other hand, we can not ignore the effect against self-isolation produced by the Internet.
For the first time in human history it was produced and used collectively a global technology.
Suddenly, the communication framework widens and the borders of enterprises, universities,
cities, regions, states no longer exists. We are now able to communicate with the whole

world, as simple as it is to talk to a colleague at office. Slowly but effectively, the Internet
replaces traditional devices; nowadays, Skype-type programs or

telephony; one no longer has to pay to communicate with someone else, the Internet provides
these services for free.

Therefore, the Internet offers a lot of advantages to modern human, advantages which
facilitate or improve his life: by using on-line resources he saves time and money,
communicates easily with people without being restricted by the barrier of proximity etc. For
me, it represents the most important invention of the last 100 years and most likely all the
young people have the same opinion as me. The Internet has reached in less than 20 years to be

the most important medium of communication, a performance that television could praise
after more than 50 years of existence. And no one could deny that nowadays the Internet is
an indispensable asset; cause people can survive for months without TV, but come into
withdrawal after just one day without online connection.
