SYSTEMS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS IN THREE VARIABLES

____________________________________________________
Exercises:
A. Find the solution to the following system of equations:
1.

5a + 5b + 5c = 20
4a + 3b + 3c = 6
4a + 3b + 3c = 9

2.
3. x+2y-4z = 13
4. 3x + 4y -2z = 19
3x + 2z = 3
5.
6. 2x + 5y +2z = -38
3x 2y + 4z = 17
-6x + y -7z = -12

B. Problem Solving:
1. Geometry. The measure of the largest angle of a triangle is 10 more than the sum of the
measures of the other two angles and 10 less than 3 times the measure of the smallest angle. Find
the measures of the three angles of the triangle.
Hint: The sum of all angles inside a triangle is 180.
8. 2. Number problem. The sum of the digits of a three-digit number is 9, and the tens digit of the
number is twice the hundreds digit. If the digits are reversed in order, the new number is 99 more
than the original number. What is the original number?
9. 3. Investment problem. Marina had $24,500 to invest. She divided the money into three
different accounts. At the end of the year, she had made $1,300 in interest. The annual yield on
each of the three accounts was 4%, 5.5%, and 6%. If the amount of money in the 4% account
was four times the amount of money in the 5.5% account, how much had she placed in each
account?
