Purpose & Objectives

The purpose of this presentation is to review trends in mathematics
performance on the Criterion-Referenced Competency test from 2011 to
2013.
The objective is to review the performance trends so that we can
collaboratively identify instructional needs, and develop possible solutions.
During the presentation of data, write down what is most important,
shocking, or confusing to you.

Clarke Middle School 2013 Data

81% of all students met or exceeded standards on the mathematics CRCT
75% of Students with Disabilities were served in general education settings for
more than 80% of the day.
35% of the students exceeded standards on the CRCT
The attendance rate was 96%
60% of students experienced Typical Growth in mathematics.

6th Grade Performance

From 2011 to 2013,
the percent of
students who met or
exceeded compared
to the district and the
state.

7th Grade Performance

From 2011 to 2013,
the percent of
students who met or
exceeded compared
to the district and the
state.

8th Grade Performance

From 2011 to 2013,
the percent of
students who met or
exceeded compared
to the district and the
state.

Subgroup - SWD
In the year 2013,
the percent of
students with
disabilities (SWD)
who met or
exceeded compared
to the district.

Subgroups by Race and Grade Level

In the year
2013, percent of
students who met
or exceeded by
race.

Subgroups by Race: Whole School

2013, the change

met or exceeded
by race.

6th Grade Domain Performance

In the year 2013,
6th grade student
performance in
each domain
compared to the
district.

7th Grade Domain Performance

In the year 2013,
7th grade student
performance in
each domain
compared to the
district.

8th Grade Domain Performance

In the year 2013,
8th grade student
performance in
each domain
compared to the
district.

HS Performance by Course
From 2011 to 2013,
student performance
on different high
school end of course
tests (note:
Coordinate Algebra
was not available
until 2013).

HS Performance - SWD
In 2013, the
percent of
students with
disabilities
(SWD) who met
or exceeded by
course (note:
Math I and II
had 0% at meets
or exceeds).

HS Performance by Race
In 2013, the
percent of students
who met or
exceeded by race
(note: Math I had
no score for White
students).

Task:
With your grade level teams, write down
One area in need of improvement that you feel is the
most critical.
Three inferences related to the area of need you
selected
Ideas for strategies to address the areas of need.

Strength Overall

Each grade level is performing above the

district. Each grade level has performed
at or above the state at one time.

Strength with SWD

On the 2013 CRCT,
82% of 7th grade
students with
disabilities were at
meets/exceeds.

Strengths
in Domain
In 7th grade 3 out of 4
domains had a
meet/exceeds rate around
70% or higher.

In 6th grade more than 50% of

the grade met/exceeded each
domain. Number & Operations
was the strongest domain with
above 65%.

In every grade level

each domain rate was
higher than the district
rates.

In 8th grade more than

60% of the grade
met/exceeded each domain.

Strength in Demographics
From 2011 to 2013, there was an
increase in the percent of Hispanic
students who met or exceeded
standards.

Areas in Need of Improvement:

While Black students represent more than half the population, they continue to
have the lowest percent of students meeting or exceeding math standards.

Areas in Need of Improvement:

In 2013, there were significant gaps between
SWD (lowest performing) and White students
(highest performing). At one point this is why
we became a focus school.

6th Grade: SWD 42%; White 89%

7th Grade: SWD 82%; White 96%
8th Grade: SWD 64%; White 100%

Areas in Need of Improvement:

From 2011 to 2013, The

percent of students
meeting or exceeding
high school math
standards is much lower
than in middle school

Areas in Need of Improvement:

In 2013, the percent of students

meeting or exceeding high school
math standards by race is much
lower than in middle school

Areas in Need of Improvement:

In 2013, the percent of SWD

meeting or exceeding high school
math standards is much lower
than in middle school

Conclusion/Discussion
How did the performance by race demographics compare?
How did the SWD performance compare?
What was the overall school trend from 2011 to 2013 for students who
met/exceeded the math CRCT?
How did the school performance compare to that of the high school?
