Sewage water collected from colonies are connected to Sewage treatment plant through

underground pipelines. Biological Oxygen Demand of the raw sewage water will be about 250
ppm whereas Chemical Oxygen demand will be around 350 ppm.
Bar Screen Chamber

Primary stage of screening.

Removes coarse materials from the flow stream.
Sewage water without any coarse material will be proceeded to the collection tank.

Collection Tank

Sewage water is collected in this tank after filtering coarse materials.

Blower blows air from under the tank to decrease the Oxygen demands.
Sewage transfer pumps, installed aside the collection tank, pump the sewage water to the
MBBR.

Moving Bed Biofilm reactor (MBBR)

MBBR is biological process used to remove BOD.

A MBBR reactor consists of a tank with submerged but floating media to provide
abundant surface for bacterial growth.
Biomass attached to the surface of the media degrades organic matter, removing BOD.
Oxygen required for the process is supplied by blowing air from under the tank.

Secondary Settling Tank

The reacted sewage water is then collected in secondary settling tank.

In secondary settling tank Alum is added.
Alum clumps the colloidal particles into flocs, which floats on the top of the water
surface and settle in the bottom as sludge.
This flocs are easy to filter.

Clarified Water Tank

The filtered water is then collected in clarified water tank.

Filter feed pumps pump the filtered sewage water to the next process.

Pressure sand filter

Before entering the sand filter, sodium hypochlorite is added to water. It acts as
disinfectant.
Sand filter is used to remove suspended particles from the water.
The filtration medium consists of a multiple layer of sand with a variety in size
Filtered water is then passed to the next step.

Activated carbon filter

Primary application is to remove taste and odor causing particles from the water.
The high adsorptive capacity of activated carbon enables it to remove taste and odorcausing compounds, as well as other trace organics from the water.
Water coming out of activated carbon filter is then collected in Treated water tank.
COD of treated water is around 250 ppm and BOD is 20 ppm.

Sludge collection tank

The sludge deposited under the secondary settling tank are collected in three sludge
collection tank by backwashing process.
The water from collected sludge is separated and processed again.
