Trajectory of a small ball is a path followed by an
object in projectile motion. In this experiment, an incline ramp was used to create a slope pathway for the ball and follow by projectile motion as it leaves the ramp. From the data collected, the initial velocity of the marble ball is determined. 2. Projectile motion is a form of motion in which an object or particle is thrown near the earth's surface, and it moves along a curved path under the action of gravity only. According to Ideal projectile motion states that there is no air resistance and no change in gravitational acceleration. When the vertical distance between the bottom of the ramp and the top of the board is 65.0cm (+-0.1cm), the marble ball travelled with a velocity of 0.906m/s and makes a small mark on the blank paper which the horizontal distance between the palm line and mark on the paper is 32.4cm (+0.1cm).
3. From the equation (
), it shows that y is directly
proportional to x. Thus, the higher the vertical
distance between the bottom of the ramp and the top of the board,x , the higher the horizontal distance between the palm line and mark on the paper,y. 4.
According to the collected data and the plotted
graph it is obviously that the longer the Y (cm) the longer the X (cm) which the Y/X is linearly proportional to the X (cm). From the graph, the yintercept shows the value for the theoretical constant,k.
5. However, this experiment has some mistake due to
human factor. For example, the ball may not place at the same spot each time during the experiment. During experiment, some precaution we should take to gain the actual result. For example we must make sure that the position of stand with wooden board is only change in the height of it but never moved the angel between the table and the
wooden block. During experiment, we make sure the
position let the ball rolling down is always same.
