QUOTE FOR THE MONTH

BE THE TYPE OF PERSON YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Hello again this month I decided to use a bit of my own advise and push the boundary a bit
with a slightly different approach to the newsletter cover photo. You may be all wondering
what it has to do with woodturning. Here are 8 people who have just experienced the
emotion that their first experience with woodturning has given them. The truth is I have no
idea for their jubilation but I was trying to portray how I feel when I turn wood.If you do not
feel this way then maybe you are not turning the right things or the right wood.As I have
always preached it should be first and formost for your personal enjoyment. The day that this
fails to happen is maybe the day it is time to walk away.
Good to see another good turnout to our monthly meeting and also another good
presentation of work and other things on the table.
As you are all aware that next month is the AGM I urge you all to make an effort to be there
and hope we will be able to get some new faces prepared to take up positions on the
Committee, the future of the club depends on it.It is not a great part of of your time taken up
in doing so.
Unfortunately one of our members Paul Ackroyd has had an accident and has fractured
several vertabrae in his back, we all wish him well on his road to recovery.
Thanks must go to Ross who has again started back up with the adds in the Tuesday weekly.
This is just another way of advertising the club. And thanks also for stepping in to help with
the raffle as Heather was unavailable on Tuesday due to illness.
Thanks also to Veronica who took the plunge and agreed to select the Turner of the month in
the absence of last months winner.Remember that the choice of winner is who you choose
for whatever reason you choose. There is not a set formular just as you see fit.
Below is this months winner who it was great to see used a piece of london plane as part of
the hands on demo from the previous months Plane and simple night.Congratulations to
Barry on his effort.Nice bit of wood and good use of it as well.

The Syd Mattsen Peoples Choice Trophy went to none other than Bryan Swadel with an
amazing bit of work as we have come to expect from him.I do not want to say that I told you
so but I predicted back when I saw his drawing of it back at Hari Hari that if he was to finish
this it would win the trophy and I am glad to see that the majority agrees.

It is work by a guy named Jaques Versery that Bryan has been inspired by in creating
this.Another cool thing that Bryan told me which I have since checked out is an amazing
party trick for you to try and impreess your friends. Get on your computer and put in Jaques
Versrey u tube ,you shuold get a choice of clips but the one you want is on tool usage for
turning .Once you see it you will know what I mean.It goes for about 2.5 minutes.

As I said at the meeting we need more ideas and people who wish to help with the demo
nights. It becomes more difficult trying to think of things that we have not all seen before.
Time to get your thinking caps on and suggest some ideas.
I hoped you enjoyed the Keep you hair on demo and we hopefuly will get a few more made
as they are for a great cause. Remember as I said you have quite a bit of leeway here with
what can be done. Many people can suffer hair loss for various reasons and they are all
different so the wig stands can be different as well.
It was great to see the latest newsletter not this one but the previous was clear on the website
as most of you will have seen the result of the printed one that I took along. I wish I had
better understanding of computers and these problems would not happen. This is a good
chance for someone who has to maybe have a go at doing the newsletter as it is always good
to get new ideas of doing things.
I do not to want to keep sounding like a broken record but we have heaps of amazing wood
at the club so make use of it because thats what its there for.
Also remember that if anyone has anything that they may hve seen that could be of used in
the newsletter just let us know. What wuold be good is if we can get a gallery going on our
website of peoples work I will need someone like Simon or Brendon to sort this out but I
think that our site looks pretty good and the more exciting we can make it the better the club
will benefit from it.

JOKE OF THE MONTH.

A truck driver stopped at a roadside diner for lunch and ordered a cheeseburger, coffee and a
slice of apple pie.As he was about to eat it three bikers walked in.
One grabbed the truckers cheeseburger and took a huge bite of it. The second drank the
truckers coffee, and the third wolfed down the apple pie. The truckie never said a word and
payed for his meal and left.
As the waitress walked up , one of the bikers growled, he ain't much of a man , is he ?
He's not much of a driver either ' he justed backed his eighteen wheeler over three
motorbikes.
Until next month then as usual keep up the turning and see if you can get the emotion of the
front cover when you are and you will be as I say living in the moment.
Thanks Ed.
