Q#02

I.a) Draw a compound curve. Show or label the elements the compound
curve. Also define meaning of all the label of the compound curve.
(Refer to photocopy of a Civil Engg. Board Exam Reviewer book taken
by Paola Joson)

I.b) Draw a reverse curve. Show or label the elements the reverse curve. Also
define meaning of all the label of the reverse curve. (Refer to photocopy
of a Civil Engg. Board Exam Reviewer book taken by Paola Joson)

II.) Define the following and explain briefly the effect of the each formula on
the sharpness and flatness of a curve. (Refer to Surveying, Chapter-22,
by McCormac)
a.) Radius of Curvature
b.) Degree of Curvature, chord basis
c.) Degree of Curvature, arc basis

III.) A compound curve starts at Sta.20+304 forming two consecutive simple

curves ending at Sta.20+544. At point C (the point of intersection of T1
and T2), the azimuth of line tangents to the PC and PT are 60deg and
295deg respectively. The Degree of Curvature by chord basis of the first
curve is 4deg and 5deg for the second curve. Compute the stationing of
the PCC. Note; use 20 meter arc length to define Degree of Curvature
in this problem.

IV.) A common tangent of a reverse curve is 280.5m and has bearing of

S47deg31minE. The bearing of the tangent of the first curve is
N72deg45minE, while the tangent of the second curve bearing is
N38deg13min. The Radius of Curvature of the first curve is 180m and
its PI is at station Sta.12+523.37. Find the stationing of PT.
