Grading Scale
Richland Two will adopt the 10-point grading scale for Grades 2-12 beginning in
2016-2017.
In April 2016, the State Board of Education unanimously voted to implement a
10-point grading scale effective in the 20162017 school year. This includes high
school students and middle school students taking high school credit courses. The
10-point grading scale will replace the 7-point grading scale.

How will this new grading scale help my student?

The new grading scale gives South Carolina students a fair opportunity to
apply and compete for college admissions and scholarships. All the states
surrounding South Carolina use a 10-point grading scale.
The new grading scale will also provide continuity for military families and
students.
The scale will provide a more seamless transition from high school to college
for students as outlined in the Profile of the SC Graduate. All South Carolina
colleges and universities operate on a 10-point-scale.

How will this change affect previous grades under the old
7-point grading scale?
Grades from the 20152016 school year, including summer school, have been
stored under the 7-point grading scale. Effective August 2016 the 10-point grading
scale will be implemented.
