1.

What do these examples say about firms should

introduce TQM?
The examples listed in the case clearly depict that
quality implantation in any company is a slow process and
needs to be handled tactfully. Firms should try to introduce
TQM with a planned approach. It cannot be applied in all
processes

altogether.

This

needs

careful

planning

to

implement TQM in all processes in a way that the entire

system is not disturbed and the maximum advantage is
achieved. Secondly, firms should not use top management for
the quality implementation; in fact this process needs to start
from the grass root lower level. When first implemented at the
lower level, it can be improved and controlled at the upper
level as well. In case, it is implemented from upper level but
ignored at lower level, it will sabotage the entire system.
2. What do you think of James McNerneys approach to
introducing TQM at 3M?
James McNerneys approach in introducing TQM in 3M is
quite logical and realistic in a sense that first of all he
considered all members of the company to be the part of this
process. He planned to train all employees at a basic level,
this was a gesture of quite a positive thinking. Secondly, he
focused in the upcoming managers. This showed his strong
analytical

ability

of

not

disturbing

the

system

but

implementing the quality in the company through the

upcoming

managers

with

slow

and

steady

process.

Approach is quite logical as the system is not disturbed and

the implement is planned in a careful manner.
