OVERVIEW
As a result of continuous reliability improvement, a redesigned, revalidated internal oil pump will
supercede Sundyne part number PU01AB01. The new oil pump, part number PU01AB02, is directly
interchangeable with the original one, supplies the same oil capacity and maintains the reversing and
internal relief features. There is no price change.

REDESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
After dissecting a number of used oil pumps from the field, a redesign effort was focused on the gear
pump shaft and drive mechanism.
The shaft diameter has been increased from 7/16 inches (11.1 mm) to 5/8 inches (15.9 mm). This
decreases the shaft unit load and provides additional oil film even when the pump is relieving. The
new, larger shaft is solid to facilitate a carburized surface 0.03 inches deep (0.76 mm) with a minimum
hardness value of 61 HRC. Shaft lubrication is guaranteed with the addition of two lubrication grooves
that feed the shaft regardless of direction of rotation. Finally, a second drive pin was added that
engages the input shaft to minimize eccentric operation.

VALIDATION TESTING
Each feature was tested individually for 50 hours with no pump relief then 50 hours at 50% relief.
Optimization continued until shaft roundness after test was within 0.00002 inches (0.0005 mm).

AVAILABILITY
As of September 15, 2003, the old pump will become obsolete. Only the new pump, PU01AB02, will be
supplied in new units, exchange gearboxes and as replacement parts.
