Loaned equipment is to be used only by the student or employee to whom the equipment was
loaned.
Loaned equipment is not to be used in an environment that may cause damage to it.
Borrowers of the loaned equipment must follow the University of Minnesotas computer use
Any problems with the loaned equipment should be brought to the attention of Disability
Services immediately.
Terms of Use of Disability Services Equipment
1. Legal and Authorized Use. Loaned equipment shall only be used for legal, authorized purposes.
Unauthorized or illegal uses, include violations of State and Federal laws and regulations, and include
without limitation, harassment; destruction of or damage to equipment, software, or data belonging to
others, unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials, private business unrelated to University
activities, and other uses prohibited by the University of Minnesota Computer Use Policy.
2. Authorized Users: Borrower must be a currently registered University of Minnesota student, or
currently employed University of Minnesota staff/faculty member. The equipment borrowed must be in
the control of the borrower named above at all times. Additional users may use the equipment within
the presence of the borrower, however, the result of the use by that additional user and the safety of
the computer continues to be the responsibility of the borrower.
3. Fraudulent use. If laptop computer and adaptive technology is obtained by borrower from the
University of Minnesotas department Disability Services by fraud or misrepresentation, or is obtained
in furtherance of an illegal purpose, all use of laptop and adaptive technology is WITHOUT
PERMISSION.
4. Use Restrictions: Neither borrower nor authorized users must ever engage in any activity that is in
violation of law or University policy, to include, the University of Minnesotas Student Code of
Conduct. Neither borrower nor authorized users must ever engage in any activity that might be
harmful to computer systems or to any information stored thereon, such as, without limitation,
creating or propagating viruses, disrupting services, damaging files or making unauthorized changes
to files or all other non-approved changes.
5. Investigations. Borrowers and authorized users shall promptly complete police reports or other
requested incident reports and deliver to Disability Services a copy of all related documents, including
but not limited to, police reports, insurance claim forms, and other pertinent information. Borrowers
and authorized users shall also fully cooperate with Disability Services investigation of any vandalism,
theft, accident, claim, or lawsuit involving the loaned laptop computer and accompanying adaptive
technology.
6. Repairs and Alterations. Equipment is loaned in as-is condition and Disability Services makes no
representations as to its fitness of purpose or merchantability. Borrowers sole remedy shall be the
return of the laptop and accompanying adaptive technology. Borrower shall not permit or undertake
any repair of the equipment, or the replacement of any part in the equipment, without the prior
consent of the Disability Services in each instance. Borrower shall not tamper with or alter computer
