OVERVIEW

Background: Roller derby is an athletic, full-contact racing and blocking game played
on quad roller skates. The Detroit Derby Girls (DDG) are the largest & oldest-existing
roller derby league in Michigan.
Event in Brief:
Who two teams of DDG league members, volunteers, and up to 700 spectators
What one outdoor exhibition flat-track roller derby game
Where Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan
When the evening of Friday, June 2, 2017
Why goals and objectives are to:

celebrate the Detroit Derby Girls 12th season


promote our sport to new fans, media, and sponsors
raise funds for our league and its charity partners
pilot similar games for possible participation in future large-scale events

Event Details: The Detroit Derby Girls XII Games has been imagined as an intraleague roller derby game held in conjunction with the Belle Isle Grand Prix, the Grand
Prix Fan Fun Zone, and Free Prix Day. Funds will be raised via ticket sales, merchandise
sales, vendor & food truck partnerships, and sponsorships.
Targeted sponsors include:
- Motor City Chevy Dealers
- Modern Skate & Surf
- Warrior Sports
- HopCat (brewpub)
- Fathead (graphics)
Estimated finances:
Total revenue - $7,850
Total expenses $2,900
Total net event profit - $4950

GUEST EXPERIENCE

Target audience: All types and all ages. Existing DDG friends, family, and fans, along
with a portion of the 100, 000 estimated Grand Prix attendees, i.e. local families
enjoying Free Prix Day.
Attendance expectations:
The DDG played in front of a crowd of 3000 at Cobo Arena in 2010. Our games
currently host 600-800 people regularly and sell out a few times per season at a
maximum capacity of 900. We have budgeted for 500 ticket sales. Capacity at the Grand
Prix Fan Zone will allow for up to 700 fans at this event.

Ticket price: $5
Game: hour-long contact sport played by women on roller skates
DDG Activities: meet & greet the derby girls, autographs, face painting, hula-hoops
Fan Zone Activities: cornhole, basketball shootout, go-carts, monster trucks
Music: pre-game, national anthem, and halftime performances by the School of Rock
Merchandise: jackets, shirts, hats, socks, glassware, scarves, bumper stickers,
bandanas, and fanny packs
Food: Fan Zone Taste of Detroit with local food trucks, league sponsors McShanes
Irish Pub and Supinos Pizzeria
Refreshments: Water, Faygo, Fan Zone beer garden sponsored by Coors Light

The Detroit Derby Girls are Michigans largest and oldest-existing
roller derby league. With a skater and staff membership of over 150,
the DDG regularly play at Detroits Masonic Temple eight times per
year (Fall through Spring) in front of 600-800 fans of all ages.
To celebrate our 12th season, were teaming up with the Meijer Fan
Zone at the 2017 Belle Isle Grand Prix for an exciting outdoor game
in the heart of the city we call home. We hope youll join us!
