About the Life of Tyler Perry

Emmitt Perry Jr., better known as Tyler Perry, was born

on September 13, 1969. He was born in New Orleans,
Louisiana. His father was Emmitt Perry and his mother was

Willie Maxine Perry. He also has a brother by the name of

Emmbre Perry. Growing up, Perry had a very difficult
childhood. He endured several years of abuse from adults in
his life like his father. Because of all the abuse, Perry
became depressed. It even got into a point where Tyler Perry
tried to commit suicide. Tyler thought that suicide was the
only way to escape the brutality of his father. In his life,
his mother was his only comfort. She would always take him
to church in order to get out of the house and to get away
from the abusive father. Because of this, Perry grew up to
be a very religious man. By the time Perry was 16 years old,
he changed his first name from Emmitt to Tyler in order to
dissociate himself from his father. He then dropped out of
high school but later got his GED. One day when Perry was
watching an episode of Oprah, he heard that people would
write letters to there future self in order to overcome
depression. This is exactly what he did and those letters
later became the basis for his musical I Know Ive Been
Changed. Tyler was very determined to put this play
together. His mind was so set that there was a point where
he lived in his car because he would rather use his rent
money for the musical. So he saved up enough money to
produce the show, but it failed the first time. It failing
the first time didnt stop Perry. He did a number of strange
jobs for 6 years in order to keep the play running.
Throughout most of those 6 years, Perry couldnt pay his
rent so he lived in his car. The musical opened in Atlanta,
Georgias House Of Blues 6 years after its first opening.
This time the musical was not a fail. In fact when the
musical opened again in the Georgia in 1998, it was sold out
8 times in a row. Perry later moved the musical to the Fox
Theater. The Fox Theater is able to seat up to 4,000 people.
As soon as the musical moved there, it continued to be sold
out. The musical I Know Ive Been Changed is what started

Tyler Perrys career. After I Know Ive Been Changed,

Perry went on to write and direct 13 more plays in the
following years. Some of these plays include Woman Thou
Art Loosed! and I Can Do Bad All Myself, showing the
world of the famous character Madea.
Madea has become a sensational character that was
played by Perry himself. The character Madea first appeared
in the 2002s film I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Everyone
loved Madea and this led to a series of different Madea
based movies. 1 year later in 2003, Tyler Perry released the
second movie that involved Madea. The movie was Madeas

Class Reunion. In
2005, 2 years
after the second
movie came out,
the third Madea
movie came out.
The third movie
was Diary of a Mad Black Woman and it was a big hit. This
movie was Tyler Perrys debut feature film. The movie
approximately brought in about $50.7 million dollars. One
year later, in 2006, Perry wrote, directed, and produced yet
another Madea movie called Madeas Family Reunion. This
movie was an even bigger hit than the first Madea movie.
Madeas Family Reunion brought in about $63.3 million
dollars in the U.S. alone. Then in 2008, Tyler Perry
produced, directed, and started in another movie that
involved Madea. When the movie Meet the Browns came out, it
made about $20 million dollars on the opening weekend. It
later was able to make up to $41.9 million dollars in the
United States. Madea Goes to Jail was the next Madea movie
that was released in February of 2009. On its opening
weekend, the movie made up to $41 million dollars. The movie
later made up to $90.5 million dollars in the U.S. only.
This blew Perrys mind because that movie brought in the
most money so far. In 2011, 2 years after Madea Goes to

Jail came out, Tyler Perry released another Madea movie

called Madeas Big Happy Family. On its opening weekend in
April of 2011, the movie made $25.1 million dollars. The
movie was being played on over 2,288 screens across the
country. The movie later made up to $54.1 million dollars
worldwide. It didnt make as much as the other movies before
but it was still a great movie. A year later in 2012, Perry
directed another Madea based movie. The movie was Madeas
Witness Protection. This movie was being played on over
2,000 screens across the country. On the opening weekend,
the movie made about $25.4 million
dollars.
In total the movie made about $66.9
million
dollars worldwide. The next Madea movie
came out in
February of 2013. The next Madea
movie that
Tyler Perry directed was Madea
Gets a Job. Later that year in
December, Perry directed
another Madea movie. The movie
that he directed was A Madea

Christmas. On

Hell. A year later in 2015, Tyler Perry stared in an
animated Madea movie. This animated movie was called
Madeas Tough Love.
Although Tyler Perry did spend a lot of his time
directing the Madea movies, he also directed a lot of other

popular movies. One of his most popular movies is

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. This movie
was released in 2013. The
movie is about a married
womans temptation towards a
handsome billionaire that she
counsels. This movie became
very popular. On its opening
weekend in March of 2013, the
movie made $21.6 million
dollars. The movie later made
up to $53.2 million dollars.
Another very popular movie
that Perry directed and even
stared in was the 2012 movie
Good Deeds. Tyler plays an
engaged, wealthy businessman
who falls for a single,
struggling mother. It starts
out with him just wanting to
help her get back on her
feet, but later their
feelings change. On its
opening weekend, the movie
was playing on about 2,132
screens across the country.
On the opening weekend, the movie made about $15.6 million
dollars. In two months, the movie
was able to make around $35.6
million dollars in the U.S.
In 2014, Tyler Perry became a
dad to his first son named Aman
Tyler Perry. He had a son with his
longtime, supermodel girlfriend
Gelila Bekele. After announcing that
he was going to be a dad, Perry
faced a lot of criticism from his
fans because of how much he would
practice his faith. They criticized
him for having a child before being
