1. Introduction: (Identify Grade Level K12 Academic Content Standard(s), rationale, focus learner,
create bridges from past learning, behavior expectations)
.
*Standard RF.K.3

Rationale:

*Kindergarten group of 14.

Students will be able to stay focused while

*Create bridges by using their knowledge of zoophonics.

At their spot on the rug due to rug rules.

*Behavior expectations: Children must practice rug rules at

Once they go to their seat, they will

all times until they go to their seat.

continue to practice classroom rules and

stay on task while watching me
demonstrate what the task will be.

2. Learner Outcome(s)/Objective(s): (What will students learn from this lesson? How will you
measure mastery of the outcome?)
The students will be learning three new Kindergarten sight
words on the rug then applying whatthey learn to
highlighting them in their shape book they created on their
own. I will check their work through out the lesson by
constantly monitoring their work.

Rationale:
It is important that students take what they
learn in one context and apply it in another
form. All while I am constantly monitoring
their work and assessing.

3. Pre-assessment Activity: (Determine students abilities to achieve the learner outcome and
prescribe instruction accordingly. Consider: linguistic background, academic language abilities,
content knowledge, cultural and health considerations, interests and aspirations, physical
development, social development, emotional development. )

*I will pre-assess the group at the beginning of the lesson

during rug time as they are sitting on their spot.
*The group should be able to understand the new words
due to our daily lessons of zoophonics.

Rationale:
At the kindergarten level, it is important to
pre-assess and see what level they are at,
and if they are able to complete the lesson
that I will be asking them to do. In this
case, most of the kids will be able complete
the lesson after the pre-assessment.

4. Differentiation, Adaptation & Accommodation Strategies: (Based on the pre-assessments, modify

Learning Activities based on learner characteristics to meet the needs of ELL & special needs
students, highly achieving students and low achieving students)
I will use larger sight word cards I students cannot see
the smaller cards during both rugtime and desk time.
For this specific lesson, it is very important all
Kindergarten students can clearly see the words that are
being introduced to them.

Rationale:
Because this is a Kindergarten class,
differentiation is very minimal. Most of
the students are able to see and understand
the sight words. The only issue is the size
of the card. If students are too far away, by
showing them larger cards, they may react
better and be able to clearly see what they
are learning.

5. Resources: (Identify materials needed for this lesson accounting for varying degrees of skill level)
*Smaller sight word cards

Rationale:

*Larger sight word cards

6. Learning Activities: Explicit Teacher Instruction - (Explain, model, demonstrate, check for
understanding)
Rationale:
Check for Understanding:

7. Learning Activities: Guided Practice/ Collaborative Practice (Check for understanding and
provide feedback and re-teaching)
* I will show (model) the three new shight words to the
group
* After lesson, kids will stay at rug and I will get My
Shapes Book and get a yellow crayon and go page by page
to demonstrate finding and highlighting the sight words in
page.
Check for Understanding: As the lesson progresses and
the students go to their desks to begin highlighting, I will
assess and check their understanding page by page.

Rationale: It is important for the teacher

to assess the Kindergartners multiple times
throughout the lesson. Because these
words are brand new to the students, they
are more likely to miss the words
occasionaly.

8. Independent Practice: (Provide practice that supports the learning outcome. Note: Independent
activities are assigned assuming that students understand the concept well enough to work on their
own.)
*Thestudents will not be doing independent practice during

Rationale: Kindergarten aged students are

this lesson. They will be working at a desk that I will choose

too young to do this type of lesson at the

for them and working on their own while watching me

beginning of the year. With that said, they

highlight words on each page.

are doing only one or two simple coloring

projects on their own.

Check for Understanding:Constantly walking around the

desks and monitoring each students work. Making sure
they are highlighting the correct words.

9. Assessment and Evaluation: (Describe how you will assess and/or evaluate the students learning.
Describe differentiating assessment strategies you will use for ELL, special needs students, highly
achieving students and low achieving students.)
* I will monitor throughout the lesson and assess ater each

Rationale: Assessing througout the lesson

page in The Shape Book. I will have the kids sitting in

is vital in Kindergarten. The students will

groups close to the dot cam so I will be able to monitor

be learning three new words, and making

during each page as well as making sure they are

sure they begin understanding and

highlighting the correct words. I can utilize my larger cards

immediately recognizing these words is

something that is going to be ongoing.

10. Closure: (Describe how students will reflect on what they have learned.)

words. They will be using their own shape book creation and
highlighting in that. They love learning new words and
applying their new words with their imagination in their
work.

11. Lesson Reflection/Assessment: (Collect student learning data to determine: What went well?
What needs to be changed? Were learning outcomes met? What activities will you add, change,
modify in the future? What can be done to follow up on the learning from this lesson? Who needs
additional help? Who needs enrichment or higher level work?)
