Classroom Management Plan

Megan Vaughn
While learning about and observing students and how they interact in the classroom, I have
created the following document sharing my thoughts and plans for classroom management. I
have learned about many theorists on behavior and from their theories and research, I have
developed my own beliefs for behavior and how to effectively manage a classroom.
My beliefs:
1. I believe that each child comes to the classroom with different backgrounds and circumstances
that will impact his or her learning.
2. I believe that students want to learn, but often act out when they do not understand or are
frustrated with the topic.
3. I believe that each student is an individual with a unique personality and we need to treat them
as such.
Practices for a proactive and positive classroom:
As a teacher, it is my job to create a classroom environment that encourages proactivity and
positivity. I will accomplish this with the following practices:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Creating a classroom environment that encourage creativity and individuality.

Providing opportunities for students to express themselves in a safe space.
Having high expectations for each student based on their own developmental abilities.
Providing occasional opportunities for project-based learning, allowing students to have a say in
their own learning, with teacher guidance.
5. Develop expectations and opportunities for group learning and promoting positive interactions in
groups.
Classroom rules and routines are what keep the classroom a productive place. When it comes
to developing these rules, I will work with my class at the beginning of the year to create a list of
rules and routines. Theses rules will be worded in I will statements instead of dos and donts
so they are focusing on the positive behavior instead of the negative. Some sample rules and
routines are:

I will keep my hands to myself.

I will walk quietly in the hallway.
I will hand in my papers in the turn in box.
In order to maintain an orderly classroom, I will use the following strategies:

Monitor student behavior and academic progress carefully.

Be consistent in the use of procedures, rules, and consequences.
Manage inappropriate behavior promptly.
Maintain a positive climate with an emphasis on reinforcing appropriate behaviors.
When needing to manage an inappropriate behavior, I will follow the following steps in order
until the behavior ceases:

1.
2.
3.
4.

Make eye contact and move closer to the student.

Remind the student of the correct procedure for what he or she is supposed to be completing.
Redirect the student to his or her task.
Ask the student to stop the inappropriate behavior and monitor.
Conflict is part of the classroom. When there is a conflict, I will use the following conflict
resolution strategies:

Separate yourself from the situation and cool off.

Listen without interrupting.
Attack the problem, not the person.
Do not jump to conclusions about someone elses feelings.
Thank the person for listening.
Students should feel that they are having a say in their education, even if it is just one project.
Letting them take the lead, with guidance, allows them to take ownership of their work and
encourages them to develop their interests.
Parental involvement can have a huge impact on student learning. Having parents who are
actively involved in their childs education allows the students to feel proud of what they have
achieved. Parents can be great helpers with projects, field trips, and special events.
I believe that the school building and district policies are very important and should be
constantly and consistently enforced.
