(1) Why Diesel engine are use in Heavy Duty Vehicle?

- Heavy Vehicle requires higher torque as Diesel engine produce higher torque
than Petrol engine.
- The performance of Diesel engine is better than Petrol engine when torque
requirement is higher as its needs higher Compression ratio.
(Higher Compression ratio leads to Knocking in Petrol engine)
(2) Give the classification of I.C. Engine.
- Based on types of fuel to be used
- Based on types of Ignition system to be used
- Based on types of cycle to be used
- Based on types of cooling system to be used
- Based on Application
- Based on Method of Fuel Injection
- Based on Layout of engine arrangement
- Based on types of governing system to be used
(3) How Constant pressure is maintain in Diesel engine?
- Diesel are less volatile than Petrol. It needs more time to ignite compare to
Petrol.
- When ignition will start, heavy pressure rise due to combustion will exert push
force towards piston head. Due to that downward movement of piston will take
place which cause expansion of gas generated due to combustion. So,
throughout cycle, mean effective pressure inside engine will remain almost
same.
- In short, Constant pressure is maintained by allowing the volume to
expand while in heat addition process.
(4) Difference between Knocking and Detonations.
- Knocking and Detonation have technically same meaning.
- Knocking occurs in Petrol engine due to collision take place between Flame
front and End charge flame.
- While Detonations occurs in Diesel engine due to sudden rise of pressure inside
the cylinder during second stage of Combustion (which are also known as
Uncontrolled combustion)
(5) What happen if we use Petrol engine in Heavy Duty Vehicle?
- Only Knocking occurs as higher Compression ratio requires to produce higher
torque. (See Q. 1)
(6) A/F ratio for Petrol engine is -------?
- Normally 15:1 to 16 : 1
(7) What is rated pressure inside the L.P.G. tank?
- Nearly about 21 Kg/cm2 at NTP
(8) What is rated pressure inside the C.N.G. tank?
- Nearly about 240 Kg/cm2 at NTP

(19) Define torque and power.
- Torque is define as force required to rotate the object.
- Power is define as Work done per unit time.
(20) Weight/Power ratio is higher for which engine? Petrol or Diesel? Why?
- Diesel engine have higher weight/Power ratio because it has require

(61) What is crawler type crane and Wheel type crane?
- Crawler crane consist of crawler made of metal which are help for better grip in
irregular surface as well as for heavy duty work. It can withstand larger
compressive load transmitted through it. The average moving speed is lower
than wheel crane. It can only use where heavy work to be lift and work distance
travel is small.
- Wheel crane which consist of wheel which are the made of rubber which are
help for speedy and fast movement of vehicle from one place to other place. It
provide flexibility to work in fine as well as irregular surface. But it has find
limited application for lighter duty work only as it cant handle larger
compressive load. Average moving speed is higher than crawler crane.
