Psychology 1010 Reflection

This summer I took Intro to Psychology online and I enjoyed it a

lot. Psychology has always been interesting to me and Im glad I had
the opportunity to go a little bit more in depth with this class. I really
liked the textbook for this class, which surprised me because most
textbooks are very boring. This textbook was easy to read and the
subjects were easy to understand. It had many real life examples,
which helped a lot, and it also was written in a kind of funny sarcastic
way at times. Another thing I enjoyed about this course was the social
discussion post. I liked doing the small weekly experiments because
they werent so intense that I stressed about them, but instead I was
able to incorporate them easily into my day. It was fun to have a new
challenge every week. I also really liked reading everyones experience
with their weekly challenge because it opened my eyes to a lot of
different ways things can be done, and also helped me learn what I
could do in a similar situation.
Psychology is the fun type of science so there wasnt much I
didnt like about this course. The only thing I remember bothering me
when I first started the class was that since it was summer semester,
the classes move very quickly. Before I knew it my first paper was due
and I had felt like I barely knew anything. It went okay though, and it
got better as I got into the swing of things. Another thing I didnt
completely love about this class is that I decided to take it online. This

is because, for me personally, reading the textbook is helpful but

lectures in a classroom help even more. Sometimes throughout the
course I became worried since I had to really read the chapters and
rely on that information rather than relying on a lecture. Yet, for being
an online class I really enjoyed it. Most online classes arent so friendly
or welcoming and it really felt like we were an actual class that met
regularly once a week in person.
My favorite part of the class was the group activity, which is still
shocking to me because I definitely hate group projects. Another online
class I took this semester as well had a group project and I really
believed that nothing could be worse then a group project that was in
an online course. This group project, however, was honestly the best
group project Ive ever had. I loved that we were able to pick our own
topic as most group projects are randomly assigned. The objective was
to create an informative website about our topic. There were four girls
in my group and none of us could really meet in person so we talked
over Canvas and it went so well. We each divided the work up evenly,
everyone got to do the topic they liked, and we all gave 100% effort
when doing our individual research. Not only was the topic interesting
and designing a webpage was also enjoyable, but I also had never
enjoyed working with a group so much! Ive also rarely worked with a
group who each put in effort so no one had to work more to pick up
someone elses slack. It was great.

I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot of small things that
made me realize more personal things about myself, which I liked. This
course made me want to take more in-depth psychology classes since
it gave me a general introduction, I can now find areas I want to learn
more about.
