Courtesy boating inspections
Memorial Day weekend
by Sc Dept of Natural Resources

B
eginning Memorial Day weekend and throughout the summer,
law enforcement officers with the S.C. Department of Natural
Resources will be patrolling the state’s waterways and
conducting courtesy boat inspections. DNR officers will be focused on
“saturation” patrols of lakes, rivers, reservoirs and coastal waters in
an effort to reduce boating accidents, injuries and fatalities.
The courtesy inspections are being offered to ensure that all
boaters have the required safety equipment on-board their vessel
before they launch their boat. During these scheduled courtesy safety
inspections, DNR officers will be available to talk with boaters and
answer enforcement and safety questions.
With more than 400,000 registered boaters in South Carolina and
increasing population density along coastal counties, it is extremely
important that boater education be a priority before heading out on
state waterways.

Courtesy watercraft inspections are scheduled for the following

locations over the Memorial Day weekend:
* May 29 - Limehouse Landing - Stono River/ICW - 10am-12:30pm
* May 30 - Paradise Landing - Wando River - 9am-Noon
* May 30 - Wappoo Cut Landing - Wappoo Creek - 9:30am-12:30pm
* May 31 - Leeds Ave/County Farm Landing - Ashley River - 10am-
12:30pm

For a listing of public boat landings, title and registration requirements,

boating laws, regulations and safety tips, visit www.dnr.sc.gov/boating.
You can also find out about boating safety courses and information on
how to obtain a free float plan form by contacting the DNR Boating
Safety Office at 1-800-277-4301.

First United Methodist turns 60

I
n 1950, a founding group of 25 Isle of Palms residents expressed
their faith by establishing a new church. A dream was realized,
prayers answered, and the First United Methodist Church has
been a beacon at the bend in the road for island residents and visitors
ever since.  On Sunday, June 6, the congregation will celebrate its
60th anniversary with the Rev. Jim Correll and Dr. C.J. Lupo.  A
single service will be held that day at 10:45 a.m. with special music
followed by a barbecue dinner on the grounds. If you attended First
Church in the past, were a pupil of the Nursery School, Boy Scouts, or
other activities, or if you’d just like to drop by and help us celebrate,
you are invited to join us for this momentous occasion.
For additional information, visit www.iopmethodist.com or contact
the church office at 886-6610.
