e Irene McCorma Story

Irene McCorma grew up as a fairly typical Western Australia country


girl. She was a boarding student at Santa Maria College, Aadale. As a
member of the Australian Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Irene
was commied to her vocation of educating young people. Born on 21st
August, 1938 at Kununoppin near Trayning, Western Australia, Irene
taught in sools in Victoria and Western Australia before volunteering to

work with the Josephites mission in Peru.


Aer arriving in Peru in 1987, she was appointed to Huasahuasi in 1989
and took up the allenge of ministering to the impoverished. For political

reasons communist rebels did not welcome missionaries and this was well
known. In spite, recognising the danger to their lives, Irene and the other
Sisters decided to remain in Peru and continue their work. On 21st May,
1991 her fears were realised when, along with ve other people, she was
executed. Irene McCormas crime in the eyes of her murderers: caring
for and working among the impoverished of the area.

Luke is friendly, polite and generally well organised ea day. He wears the uniform well but there are concerns
regarding his grooming, in particular his hair. Luke is enjoying the opportunity presented with his placement at
Erte but it would be great to see him be more involved in College based activities, especially in his nal year.
