TOWNSVILLE BACK TO THEIR BEST

AGAINST FORMER COACH
-------------------------------------------------Townsville,QLD | There was much talk in the lead up to
this game about the return of Mark Hohn to Townsville
and abut the poor form of the Marlins. However
Townsville struck back in the best way possible and
dominated the game to win comfortably 27-6.
Patrick Gill was especially impressive and took
charge of the game. He threw 3 touchdown passes and
completed 15 of 24 throws for 240 yards. Gill continues
to have issues with interceptions and he gave the ball
away twice on back to back drives in the third quarter.
"We don't want to take away his ability to produce under
pressure or his ability to make something happen out of
nothing" said Head Coach Chris Simpson. "Yes he is
working hard on cutting down the mistakes but we do not
want to make him a lifeless robot. He wins more games
than he loses so I am not going to be too worried about
the picks".
Adelaide could not capitalise on the
interceptions. They struggled to do anything against the
powerful Marlin defence who allowed them to score on
their first possession and after a punt fumble gave them
short field position. Both times it was just a field
goal. "Credit to them" said Mark Hohn. "I am probably
the man who knows just how good they are the best and
whilst the offense takes much of the glory, defensively
they are just as good".
After the teams traded field goals on long
opening drives, Brooke McDonnell danced his way for 40
yards on a flanker screen for the first touchdown. Two
more field goals made the halftime score 13-6 in the
home sides favour and this became 27-6 after JP
Gutherson twice crossed the strip either side of the
third quarter break. His first a 33 yard swing pass from
Gill and then a 19 yard pass over the middle.
Adelaide's second half could be summed up with
consecutive drives that ended in and interception,
followed by being stopped on downs, then a fumble and
then two more times on downs.
