Course Description;
This course is designed to advance student critical thinking and analysis
skills by investigating the ancient civilization of Africa, Mesopotamia, Eurasia,
Asia, and the Americas. Students will review primary and secondary sources
to draw conclusions about the past. Students will work on articulating their
findings in verbal and written expressions using academic language and
writing structure. Students will explore historical themes such as transregional interactions and exchanges, chronology, and historical
interpretations.
Course Content:
Unit 1: Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, Spread of Christianity, Great
Schism
Unit 2: Ghana, Mali, and Islamic Empires of Africa, Emergence of Islam and

Unit 3: Medieval China, Japan, and Korea
Unit 4: Medieval Europe
Unit 5: Renaissance and Reformation
Unit 6: Scientific Revolution, Age of Exploration, Enlightenment
Unit 7: Meso-American and Andean Civilizations
Grades:
This course uses a weighted grading scale. The following are the weights

40% PROJECTS
35% UNIT ASSIGNMENTS
25% ASSESSMENTS
