975: It was a special day for Eric the red and his wife
987:

Thodjhild. Thodjhild had just given birth to a child

named Leif Eriksson. Little did they know he would
spark
to Eriksson
their Scandinavian
history.
At
the great
age ofthings
12, Leif
and his family
were
going to leave Iceland for another land. Leifs father,
Eric the red had established the first Viking settlement
in Greenland.

999: Leif Eriksson exits Greenland to sail back to Norway for

supplies. But Hs ship is blown off coast and takes him
straight to Canada. Fortunately, this outcome was a
very important element in his life as was the first
European to discover North America. The land was
then
Vinland.
After known
severalas
months
in North America, Leif Eriksson

1000: finally sets sail for Norway.

Leif attempted again to reach Greenland but this time

1001: he had successfully reached it. In his stay, he had
influenced many of the residents to convert to
Christianity.
After hearing Leifs story of the discovery of North

1002: America, some men had decided to set sail and try and
find Vinland (North America).

1020:

The Well-known Viking explorer had finally died. The

cause of his death was uncertain. At the age of 50 he
was recognised as the first European to have
discovered America, long before Christopher
Columbus.
