ResilientHangers
CDMISOPHS/PHR Resilient Hangers are designed to
suspend heavy ceilings, walls, lighting rigs, ducts and pipe
work. By isolating these elements from the main structure,
sound isolation and vibration isolation is maximized.

CDMISOPHR

CDMISOPHS

The choice between CDMISOPHS and CDMISOPHR

depends on the required resonance frequency. To
determine a specific type of PHS/PHR hanger, the load
must be considered.

FIELDOFAPPLICATION
CDMISOPHS/PHR suspensions are used to resiliently suspend ceilings or
heavy structures such as a wall, HVAC or lighting equipment to a structural
deck. This way, the transmission of structureborne noise and vibrations
can effectively be reduced.

DESCRIPTION
PHS

1

3

CDMISOPHS/PHR hangers consist of a galvanized steel frame (1) into

which an isolator element (2) is positioned; the isolator element can be a
spring (PHR) or an elastomer in CDMSOLIDS (PHS). The force is
distributed over the isolator by means of a steel washer (3). In case of a
spring isolator, soundstop layers in corkelastomer (5) are installed above
and below the spring to avoid steelonsteel contact. Elastomers resonate
at 8 to 10 Hz, and springs resonate at approximately 4 to 5 Hz. All
elements are glued together. At the top of the frame, a small
corkelastomer pad (4) decouples the steel frame and the structural ceiling.
The hanger can also be spaced off the structural deck using threaded rod.
The following units are standard:

DeltaL, the Dutch partner of CDM, is part of the
building team for one of Hollands biggest chains of
supermarkets, Dirk van der Broek. When supermarkets
are built under or next to apartments, DeltaL has to
provide a solution for the isolation of the machine
rooms with cooling machines.
The shopping centre of Nieuw Vennep is a mall
combining 40 shops with a library, several offices and
52 apartments. In order to avoid noise in the
apartments, the machine room had to be isolated.
Therefore in the machine room, a CDMISOBOX
system was used, combining CDMISOLAT, CDMISOT
and CDMISOCLIPS. For the fixation of the piping,
CDMISOPHS hangers were used. This setup provides a
reduction of the noise level from 85 dB(A) in the
machine room to < 25 dB(A) in the neighboring
houses.

STEPSTOFOLLOW
A.CDMISOPHS/PHR
CDMISOPHS/PHR resilient hangers consist of a galvanized steel frame into
which an isolator element is positioned. This isolator can be either a CDM
SOLID elastomer (PHS) or a steel spring (PHR). Hangers are attached to the
structural ceiling deck with one fixation. Install hangers at the prescribed
spacing per project drawings. If no drawings are provided, spacing shall be
limited to 2 ft [600 mm] x 3.3 ft [1000 mm] for ceilings with up to (2) layers
g
should be no more than 8 from the ceilingg
of board material. Hangers

B.Hardware&Brackets
Pass the threaded rod through the isolator body and install adjustment nuts,
washers, and hardware as shown.
For installation using Drywall Furring Channel (2025 ga, 7/8 or 1 height),
install the Cshaped bracket (face legs upward) to the lower end of the
threaded rod and secure with hardware.
For installation using the recommended prefabricated drywall grid system,
install the Lprofile bracket to the lower end of the threaded rod and secure
with hardware.

C.DrywallFurringChannelorGridInstallation
Attach the furring channel or grid to the hanging brackets using selftapping
screws. For furring channel, use a minimum of (2) screws through the wings
of the channel. For prefabricated grid, use a minimum of (2) screws through

D.FirstBoardLayer
Before installation of board materials, install resilient perimeter strip on the
walls of the room around the entire perimeter from the elevation of the
finished ceiling layer to the elevation of the top of the furring channel or grid.
Ensure no rigid connection will be made between the floating ceiling and the
surrounding structure or stationary fixtures.
Install the first layer of plasterboard to the furring channels or grid system
using appropriate selftapping screws. As this layer is being installed, lay in the
mineral wool absorptive layer (see Step E.)

E.SoundAbsorptionLayer
During installation of the first layer of board material, in the void between the
structural ceiling and the plasterboards, lay low density mineral wool as sound
absorption. This mineral wool should not be compressed in the void, and should
leave a free space for air to circulate.

F.SubsequentBoardLayers
Attach the remaining layers of board material onto the first layer, alternating
seams. All subsequent layers shall be isolated by the perimeter strip already
installed on the wall. Make sure that the perimeter is decoupled by the
resilient strip.

Install finishing wall covering and plinth (skirting board). The floating wall
should have no rigid contact with the surrounding structure. Please note that,
if the isolators are made of rubber, there will be some deflection over time,
called creep. In case the room is finished with plinths along the perimeter
directly after the installation,
installation it is advised to use flexible putty between the
floor and the plinth in order to accommodate creep.
