photographshowingClaptonreadingTheBeano,[4]aBritish
children'scomic.Claptonstatedinhisautobiographythathe
wasreadingTheBeanoonthecoverbecausehefeltlike
being"uncooperative"duringthephotoshoot.[2]The
photographerwasDerekWedgburyandthelocationwasnear
theOldKentRoad.

Originally,JohnMayallintendedforhissecondalbumtobealsoaliveoneinordertocapturetheguitarsolos
performedbyEricClapton.AsetwasrecordedattheFlamingoClub,withJackBruce(withwhomClapton
wouldsubsequentlyworkinCream)onbass.Therecordingsoftheconcert,however,wereofbadqualityand
werescrapped.[5]

McViedrummerHughieFlintandClapton.Augmentingthebandonthisalbumwasahornsectionadded
duringpostproduction,withAlanSkidmore,JohnnyAlmond,andDerekHealey(misrepresentedonthesleeve
