THE EVENING NEWS

Since the last newsletter not much has changed with the evening group. We continue to meet every
Thursday evening through the summer. The Rose Garden is a favourite place to eat at 5:30 (unless it is
raining). We also have an early night every second week from 4 until 9. The hum of sewing machines,
conversation and laughter is like music. Good music! Several quilts have been sandwiched and we hope
to have them completed in time for the Quilt Gathering in April, or the next quilt show. Thats it for this
time. Keep Stitchin.
-- Lorraine McGregor

APPLIQUE GROUP
This group also breaks for the summer, but we did have a lovely potluck lunch in July
at Susie Holmes place at Longbeach. We were all so busy talking and eating that no
actual sewing got done. Were all looking forward to September 14 when we can get
together again. If you are interested in joining us, contact Dawn at 778-463-2282 or

COREEN ZERR WORKSHOP

For June 1 and 2 we enjoyed a wonderful workshop taught by Coreen Zerr. Fifteen quilters participated
including members from other guilds. Coreen treated us to a show of her award-winning quilts and gave
many demonstrations on a variety of techniques she employs in her artwork. We covered fabric
painting, thread sketching, thread painting, bobbin work, and surface embellishments just to name a
few. Most participants worked on a project of their own design, while others chose to play and
experiment with the techniques that Coreen taught. We all had a very stimulating two days!

NEW ZEALAND BLOCK EXCHANGE PROJECTS

A year in the making - the New Zealand exchange projects are now complete.

QUILTS FOR ROMANIA

Weve taken the summer off, but we never truly quit though. At home, some of us have been sewing
quilt tops, some are cutting squares and some are sewing quilt backings. We have also donated a few
quilts to recently arrived refugees along with some of the quilts made for Rock Creek last summer. We
start back of Tuesday, Sept 6 at the First Baptist Church on Fifth St from 9am to 2pm.

JUNE POTLUCK
This years potluck was a fundraiser for Fort McMurray with all the proceeds from the silent action and
raffle going to the fire victims. Dorothea Housworth generously donated a prize basket and organised
the raffle.
Several members from Castlegars guild helped to make this special potluck even more fun and
memorable. The highlight of the lunch was Show and Tell. It is not only the display of beautiful projects
that are enjoyable, but the unique and often hilarious stories that go with them. Congratulations to
Louise ONeill who won the raffle basket and to Jo-Anne Niven who got the feathered-star blocks. Many
thanks to Darlene Hearn who once again out did herself on decor and prizes.
The money raised along with a bed quilt donated by Elsie Gates went directly to a lady who lost
everything in the fire. Thanks to Leah Gray for suggesting a recipient and to everyone who helped make
a difference in this persons life.

Hand quilting frame for sale: Two wooden T-legs with 3 metal rails and cog end. Contact Joy Rogers at
250-304-1794 (Castlegar) or rogersjc@telus.net for more information.
