Case study
The main problem indicated by the client was the inability to determine the actual periodic unit price of the
produced materials which is used to perform revaluation of stock, cost of goods sold and the revaluation
and adjustments to other non-production expenses.

Solution to the problem

Due to the fact that information about the actual unit price was essential for strategic purposes and
management reporting, a decision was made to implement Material Ledger. Implementation was carried
out on time and no extensions to standard programs were needed. Along with the GO-LIVE, the provided
functionality started to collect all the data in SAP relevant for material valuation.

The obtained benefit

The material ledger implemented has allowed the customer to valuate the stock in three different
currencies and perform actual costing which appeared to be highly beneficial for a large manufacturing
company. Actual costing has not only recorded the material valuation data but also gave the opportunity to
integrate the production variances to the material price.
