The age old kingdom of Kiskindha

01 A brief history
The kingdom of Kiskindha was situated around the Tungabhadra river (then known as Pampa
Saras) near Hampi and belongs to Koppal district, Karnataka. The region was a very
prosperous and lively place to stay, with lots of greenery around. The kingdom was known to
be Vanara Kingdom or the Kingdom of monkeys. Their body features were similar to the
monkeys, having bulged lower face, fur all over the body and a long tail. Their attires and
food habits wee similar to the monkeys. The only difference may be that thy could speak and
understand language.
The kingdom of Kiskindha was said to be ruled by the Vanara or Monkey king Bali. It is said
that he was one of the most powerful person during his reign. No one dared to enter the
region of Kiskindha without his prior permission. The kingdom, flourished on the banks of
river Tungabhadra, was built of big stones and rocks. The region was rocky. Although all
seasons were present in the region, but it used to experience extreme type of climate all-round
the year. So, the soil of the region had rocky hills. The whole kingdom was well guarded by
Vanara or monkey soldiers. The kingdom has been mentioned in the epic Ramayana as one of
the most powerfull kingdom.
