Press Conference Story

Member of Parliament for North East St. Elizabeth Raymond Pryce says he believes that the
British Governments prison transfer deal will be beneficial.
During a Press Conference on October 17, Pryce stated that The deal is being overshadowed by
the requests made by the British Prime Minister David Cameron for the Jamaican people to
move on from slavery.
Camerons request was a malapropism or a misuse of words, said Pryce.
Pryce mentioned the benefits of the deal from the British Government to build a prison in
Jamaica when he described the state of the Jamaican prisons as being in inhuman conditions and
has unstable and outdated structures.
Yes, the offer should be accepted. said Pryce.
The Opposition, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Peoples National Party Youth
Organization (PNPYO) are among those who publicly opposed the prison transfer deal.
Pryce made it clear that he believes this deal presented to the Jamaican Government may solve
the problems of the conditions of the Jamaican Prisons.
The offer which was presented by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, would facilitate the
British government providing 25 million pounds for the building of a new maximum security
prison in Jamaica. Under the agreement 300 Jamaican prisoners who are presently serving
sentences in British prisons and are set to be deported afterwards would be transferred to Jamaica
to finish their sentences in the maximum security prison.
