ELA 7 Course Contract Ms.

Pienkos
Welcome to ELA! This year is all about developing your unique voice (through reading and
writing that is) and cultivating a love for learning! In order to have a successful school year, please
closely read the following. I look forward to an engaging, creative, and stimulating year!
Objective
The purpose of this class is to improve your overall reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in
accordance with the New York State Common Core Standards for ELA. We will focus on understanding
and analyzing complex literary and informational texts through an inquiry approach. We will also
develop and expand our writing abilities through varied practice.
Classroom Rules

Be respectful of fellow students, the teacher, and the school.


Be in your seat, with a Do Now at your desk, and ready to work when the bell rings.
Be willing to work hard and ask questions when you need to.
There will be no food or drinks (besides water) in class.
Have your binder, book, and writing utensil with you every day.

large Ziploc Bag or plastic bag to keep book in (to prevent wear and tear)

Lateness and Absences

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class day. If you are late to class, you are required
to bring a pass signed by a teacher or administrator. If you are absent from school, on a field trip, at
music lessons, or for any other reason, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and make
it up on time.
If you know in advance you will be missing class, please see me to gather the work that you will miss.
If you miss any handouts while you are absent, you are responsible for picking these up from the
labeled bins located on the back shelf in the classroom and completing them in a timely manner.
Late Work
You will not receive full credit for any late work (with the exception of notified absences, etc.). For
each day an assignment is late, 10 points will be deducted. Absolutely no work will be accepted after
2 weeks from its due date.
