Imagine you are at the same business meeting. How would you start a conversation if
you

saw a photo of the co-workers family on a table

thought your co-worker looked tired

saw an interesting painting on the wall.

Task 8
Get into pairs. Imagine a situation in which you are about to do business with a co-worker
in the USA. Decide:

who is present

where you are (i.e. place/building etc.)

what you can see around you

what time it is

what the weather is like.

Now take it in turns to play each person. Swap roles when you have finished. And dont
forget to make small talk!

Lee:

Hello! Are you John Williams?

J:

I certainly am! How was your trip, Lee?

L:

It was fine, thanks. Im a little tired, you know but it was a long flight.

J:

Sure, did you get a chance to sleep?

L:

Oh, I slept two or three hours, I guess.

J:

Oh, well, thats not too badthe cars just over the road. Let me take one of your
cases.

L:

Oh, thanks, John. They walk outside the terminal building. Its hot, isnt it?

J:

Yes, its about 28. Not bad for September. Do you have any sunglasses?

L:

I sure do. I bought some at Shanghai airport.

J:

OK, here it is. Its a company car.

L:

Oh, nice. What is it a Toyota?

J:

Yes, a Toyota Prius. Its a hybrid car.

L:

We need more cars like that.

J:

We sure do. Please get in.
