ARTIST BIOS
Rick Altergott is best known as the creator
of the cartoon character Doofus, which is
showcased in the Doofus Omnibus, a collection of stories and strips (Fantagraphics
Books). Doofus and other characters also
appear in the ongoing comic series Raisin
Pie, which Altergott writes and draws with
his wife, cartoonist Ariel Bordeaux. Rick is
also a freelance illustrator whose work
appears in a wide variety of publications.

An acclaimed director of film, television,
and music videos, Allan Arkush directed
Rock 'n' Roll High School, which became a
cult classic and has since become the
most financially successful movie that
Roger Corman has ever produced.
Sergio Aragones is said to be the fastest
cartoonist in the world today. He is certainly the most honored, having won every
major award in the field, including the
National Cartoonists Society's Reuben
Award and the Will Eisner Hall of Fame
Award. Sergio is most known for his work
with Mad Magazine. His first contribution,

"A Mad Look atthe U.S. Space Effort,"


appeared in Mad #76, cover-dated January
1963. For that same issue, he also contributed the cover gag (the first of many)
and his first "Marginal Thinking" cartoons,
which were printed in the magazine's margins. He has since appeared in every issue
of Mad except for one (the post office
screwed up) and has done thousands of his
unique pantomime cartoons, He also produced 16 best-selling original Mad paperback books. With wordsmith Mark Evanier,
Sergio brought forth the adventures of
Grao The Wanderer, among many others.

Jordan Crane was born in 1973. He started
drawing comics in 1996, and has not been
far away from a drawing board for more

Mary Fleener started self-publishing mini


comics in the mid-'80s and is best known
for Life Of The Party, a collection of her
autobiographical stories. Her paintings
have shown at such places as the

surprisingly, most of her projects involve
music as a theme, She's also designed the

Xaime Hernandez is the cocreator of Love

John Holmstrom founded Punk magazine in
1975, a few months after seeing his first

William Stout began his professional
career in 1968. Early on he assisted with
the Tarzan of the Apes newspaper strips
and Eisner Award-winning graphic novels.
A few years later he gained international
notoriety for his many rock 'n' roll "bootleg"

record album covers. Stout has worked on


the advertising for over 120 films, including
Rock 'n' Roll High School, for which he
drew the poster and print ads. He has also
worked as a production designer on
numerous films and recently completed
designs for The Muppets Wizard Of Oz film
as well as Guillermo del Toro's Pan's
Labyrinth; he will soon begin work on del
Taro's At The Mountains Of Madness.
Stout's landmark masterwork, 1981 's The
Dinosaurs-A Fantastic New View Of A Lost
Era, has been recently updated and republished as The New Dinosaurs. Stout's work
has been awarded the Benjamin Franklin
Award, Eisner Award, Harvey Award,
Spectrum Silver Award, and Gold and Silver
Medals from the Society of Illustrators. To

cards have been sold. He resides in

In 1976 Jonathan Vankin was the only kid in


his tiny New England high school with the
Ramones' first album on his turntable. This
branded him as a strange and lonely outcast, but he didn't care-the Ramones let
him know it was OK. He grew up to be a
journalist and had the rare thrill of interviewing the band in 1988. With his journalistic goals thus fulfilled, he went on to write
comic books. He thinks his boyhood idols
would approve.
Wayno is an illustrator, cartoonist, writer,
and collector of unusual music. His work
has appeared in numerous periodicals, and
he has illustrated CD covers for Rhino,
Merge, Get Hip, Arf! Arf! and Basta, and
dozens of cards for American Greetings
Company. He's also created 163 (and counting) portraits of recording stars for Rhino.
