ARTIST BIOS
Rick Altergott is best known as the creator
of the cartoon character Doofus, which is
showcased in the Doofus Omnibus, a collection of stories and strips (Fantagraphics
Books). Doofus and other characters also
appear in the ongoing comic series Raisin
Pie, which Altergott writes and draws with
his wife, cartoonist Ariel Bordeaux. Rick is
also a freelance illustrator whose work
appears in a wide variety of publications.
Check out his work at www.rickaltergott.com
An acclaimed director of film, television,
and music videos, Allan Arkush directed
Rock 'n' Roll High School, which became a
cult classic and has since become the
most financially successful movie that
Roger Corman has ever produced.
Sergio Aragones is said to be the fastest
cartoonist in the world today. He is certainly the most honored, having won every
major award in the field, including the
National Cartoonists Society's Reuben
Award and the Will Eisner Hall of Fame
Award. Sergio is most known for his work
with Mad Magazine. His first contribution,
Today Zippy appears in over 200 newspapers worldwide. There have been over a
dozen paperback collections of Griffith's
work and numerous comic book and magazine appearances, both here and abroad.
He became an irregular contributor to The
New Yorker in 1994. Griffith lives and works
in East Haddam, Connecticut, with his wife,
cartoonist Diane Noomin. Go to
www.zippythepinhead.com
Tim Hensley was born in Bloomington,
Indiana, in 1966. His work has most recently
disappeared by being poured into a newspaper funnel as milk.
Xaime Hernandez is the cocreator of Love
and Rockets and has been drawing it for 22
years. Along with the comic, he has just
published a 700-page collection of his
work, titled Locas.
John Holmstrom founded Punk magazine in
1975, a few months after seeing his first
Ramones show at CBGB. He art directed
their album cover and the cover of their
first single release ("Blitzkrieg Bop"), illustrated Rocket To Russia and Road To Ruin,
and was an opening act for them at Bond's
in NYC in 1981. Check out
www.punkmagazine.com and
www.johnholmstrom.com
Carol Lay has drawn comics and illustrations for many publications, including Mad,
The Wall Street Journal, and The New
Yorker. Her weekly comic strip, WayLay,
can be seen on Salon. com and in many
weekly and daily strips here and abroad.
Visit www.waylay.com
Bobby London is best known as the
National Lampoon cartoonist, but in the
early 1980s, he was also in a lower
Manhattan rock 'n' roll band for which he
sang, wrote songs, and played a yellow
Fender Telecaster guitar. He now lives in
Los Angeles, contributes to Playboy and
Nickelodeon Magazine, and draws storyboards for TV cartoons. Check out his work
at www.dirtyduck.com
Lorna Miller is one of the funniest comic
artists working right now. Her intoxicating
comic Witch has been praised from
Slovenia to Hong Kong and is a favorite of
Robert Crumb. She lives on the south coast
of England with Chris B. Watson and
Barney T. Spaniel. See her work at
