Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said national
unity was of paramount importance to weed out roots of militancy and extremism from the country, including the educational institutions. Saying that those fanatic militants are not only enemies of Islam and Muslims but also the enemies of humanity Nurul Islam Nahid also said that those who are killing people in the name of religion are heading towards hell. He also said it could not be the lesson of Islam that anyone would go to heaven through killing innocent people here. He came with these remarks while speaking in an anti-militancy discussion held at the auditorium of Teacher Student Center of Dhaka University on Saturday morning. Nurul Islam Nahid also suggested that teachers behave in a friendly way with students, become more engaged in teaching, and inspire students towards humanity and patriotism. Presided over by DU VC AAMS Arefin Siddique the function was also addressed among others by University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain, DU Pro-VC (administration) Professor Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Kamaluddin, DUTA president Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and so on.
