Accelerated Reading Directions

1. Set a goal for how many words you are trying to read during the quarter.
2. Choose an AR book that is in your ZPD range that will help you make your goal.
Choose a book you will want to read all the time.
3. Ask Mr. Gauthier to approve the book. Only approved books count for word credit.
Write your book information on the AR: Now
Reading signup sheet.
4. Enjoy reading your book.
5. Once you have finished the book, review each
chapter to prepare for the AR test.
6. Ask Mr. Gauthier for permission to take the AR
test. Take the test (GOOD LUCK!).
7. Place the book with the TOPS Report on Mr. Gauthiers desk.
8. You must score 80% or higher on the test to receive credit for words. If you get
70% or less, you need to confer with Mr. Gauthier to see if it will be possible to
work toward getting credit for some of the words.
9. Mr. Gauthier will calculate your word credit based on your AR test score.
10. Check the calendar often to make sure you are staying on pace with the word track.
If you get behind, you may need to spend extra time reading during recesses.
