3 DENSITY AND BUOYANCY OF OBJECTS

ACTIVITY A: SINK OR FLOAT ???

Instructions : Identify whether the following substances sink or float.
Cork (gabus), cooking oil, water,
glass slide
Draw your observations.
Arrange the objects from the lowest density to the highest density.

ACTIVITY B: SHOWING THE CONCEPT OF HOW A SHIP FLOATS IN WATER

APPARATUS: Two similar beverage cans, basin and water
INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Fill a basin with water until it is three quarters full
2. Hammer one of the beverage cans into a flat piece the fold it.
3. Put both the beverage cans into the basin.
DISCUSSIONS: 1. In a group, discuss what happens to the density of the beverage can after it is folded into a small one?
2. What do you observe after both beverage cans put into the basin?
3. Use your observation to explain how a ship can float in water.

ACTIVITY C: PLASTICINE - SINK AND FLOAT

You are given plasticine, water and basin.
INSTRUCTIONS: A plasticine will sink on the surface of water. Modify the plasticine so that it can floats on the surface
of the water. Draw the shape of the modifed plasticine in the space provided.
