12 Angry Men Juror Character Sketch

Assigned Juror: Juror #3

In the movie 12 Angry Men, juror 3 plays the role of the lead antagonist. Among all the 12
jurors present, juror number 3 is the one who was the most biased against the defendant. He
does not accept the fact that there is a reasonable doubt until the very end. This bias is shown
to be due to the fact that his own son punched him 2 years before and hasnt spoken to him
since. He does not realize till the end of the film that he has been projecting his anger towards
his son on to the defendant. At every point in the film, he tried to cling on to some proof to
prove that the defendant is guilty even though every single proof has been shown to be faulty
like the old mans testimony, the womens testimony, the rare switchblade etc. He was
extremely prejudiced and his parochial views on youngsters and people from slums stopped
him from considering the possibility that the defendant might be innocent. He was short
tempered and it does not take much to push him to the limit of his anger. He does not like
anyone who does not share his views or disagrees with him. This quality of his leads to a lot of
fights between him and the other jurors particularly juror 8 who was against the conviction
from the beginning. Twice in the movie he disproves his own arguments showing that he does
not think clearly before making statements. He is very stubborn as we can see that even at the
end of the film even though every single proof has been showed to not be trustable. He keeps
pushing the other jurors to vote for guilty and calls anyone who voted otherwise weak and
bleeding hearts. He blindly sticks to his opinions until the end of the film where he finally gives
in and votes for not guilty.
