Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) by collaborating with its
development partners.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam when
opening the Data Roadmap of
the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDG) workshop, the
Permanent Secretary of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
East African Cooperation, Dr.
Aziz Mlima, said Tanzania has
started implementing SDGs--

and it was sure to achieve the

identified targets through its
collaboration
with
its
development partners including
organizations, departments and
agencies.
Through the National Bureau
of Statistics (NBS), which is
mandated to gather data for
both planning and monitoring
of SDGs at the national and
sub-national
levels,
the
Government is committed to
working tirelessly with all--

partners to ensure by year

2030 no Tanzanian would be
left out as per SDGs slogan
of leave no one behind,
said Dr. Mlima.
He said having reliable and
timely data was crucial for
planning and monitoring of
the implementation of these
goals and the road map would
help to answer developmental
questions as the country
implements the ambitious
SDGs on an annual basis.

Issue NO: 16
Dr. Mlima said the Government
was working towards making its
processes and data more open to
the public as part of the Open
Government Partnership (OGP),
led by State House Good
Governance Coordination Unit,
and the Open Data Initiative is
implemented by the Ministry of
Finance and Planning, of which
NBS is the secretariat.
The PS added that, it was the
intention of the Government to
monitor SDGs indicators both at
the national and sub-national
levels, and to determine the
capacities and resources the
country has and the gaps for which
it would need external support.

He insisted further: as we go
forward with the post 2015
agenda, we can overcome the
pitfalls that we already are

and we can achieve success in

ourselves to without leaving
others behind.

the Director General of NBS,
Dr. Albina Chuwa, said the
Statistics authority will make
sure that all the required data
regarding implementation of
SDGs was made available.

and usable manner that allows
the use and re-use of data for
socio-economic development.

during the launch of the report of Child Poverty in Tanzania of 2016 in Dar es Salaam recently.

CHILD Poverty Report of

2016 reveals that 74 percent of
Tanzanias children live in
poverty, a situation that
threatens sustainable economic
growth.
Speaking at the launch of the
report, the Deputy Minister of
Finance and Planning, Dr.
Ashatu Kijaji, said among 25.3
million Tanzanian children, 29
percent are living in poverty.
The Child Poverty Report
2016 we are launching today
shows that most of our --

children live in deplorable

situations. This is a big
obstacle because once your
people are caught in poverty,
you wont achieve much in
terms of development, said
Dr. Kijaji.
Dr.
Kijaji
said
the
government through the
Ministry of Finance and
Planning has already started
to tackle the challenge of
child poverty by spending
Tshs. 18 billion every month
to support issues pertaining to
child development including-

education.
She added that, the
European Union (EU) also
has started supporting
Tanzania with Tshs. 25
billion for the purpose of
cutting child poverty
through
a
five-year
programme.
For his part, and on behalf
of the EU in Tanzania, Mr.
Eric Beaume said that the
report shows 3 out of 4

dimensional poverty while 26
percent (1 in 4) children

both
multidimensional and monetary
poverty.
Mr. Beaume said children were
the most vulnerable and should
be a priority for social sector
responses in line with the
Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) agenda of leaving no
one behind.
For her part, the Director
General of the National Bureau
of Statistics (NBS), Dr. Albina
Chuwa said if the country fails
to eliminate child poverty, the
consequences can be irreversible

Dr. Chuwa said the vibrant

productive workforce that
Tanzanias Vision 2025 requires
are todays children and young
people. Investing in children and
young people now rather than
later is not a burden but an
investment in the future.
She added that in making this
investment, it is important to
