INTRODUCTION
ESTABLISHING SHOT
The scene fades in from black. A
long shot of the Mediterranean Sea
with the shore of Africa looming
over the horizon.
BIG BOSS
72 hours ago, western intelligence
was informed that a weapon of mass
destruction was currently being
constructed 200 kilometers North of
Galzburg, South Africa deep beneath
the fortress known as Outer Heaven.
SHOTCamera sinks down plunging into the
sea. Sinking down lower and lower.
BIG BOSS
A fortified state made up of
soldiers and mercenaries from all
walks of life, unified under the
banner of a legendary
mercenary. Theyre a PF, the
largest in the world, and have been
utilized for wet work and espionage
by every super power in the world.
CAMERA
From the lower right corner a
submarine emerges, passing by and
disappearing into the distance.
SHOTThe shot cuts to the interior of
the sub, beginning at a radar and
panning across the room, the crew
going about their assigned tasks.
BIG BOSS
Several hours later, High Tech
Special Forces unit Foxhound was
assigned to infiltrate the
fortress, assess the situation and
neutralize whatever threat the
weapon posses to the west.
Shot now cuts to the missile room, where a figure is putting
on his diving gear. The shot purposely cutting his face
from view.

Our best agent, Gray Fox, was sent
on a one man stealth op. While he
successfully infiltrated the
facility, enemy forces were alerted
to his presence and soon after, was
captured.
The figure finishes putting on his gear. And enters an
SDV. The SDV is then loaded and preparing for launch. The
figure gripping the controls tightly.
BIG BOSS
He was however able to send one
last transmission detailing his
findings. The last words before
his transmission ended were...
The SDV halts in place, jolting the figure.
BIG BOSS
...Metal Gear.
The Camera is now from the outside.

Snake, you will have two objectives
during this mission. First you
will need to locate and rescue
fellow FOXHOUNDer Gray Fox, and
debrief him on this Metal Gear.

Yes. Well be using the same
insertion method and route as we
did with Gray Fox. Well approach
the estimated location of the
facility by sub and launch a one
man SDV. Once youre within range,

dispose of it. From there youll
swim the rest of the way.
The SDV is launched from the sub, sent off across the dark
sea. Snake is jostled by the launch. The SDV speed
declines to a steady approach. The perspective changes to
the ocean floor, the pod crossing the shot from above.
BIG BOSS
Snake this mission will be unlike
anything youve experienced
before...
BIG BOSS
Every soldier that inhabits this
fortress is a battle hardened
veteran whove taken part in
conflicts across the world. Youll
have no back up should conflict
arise. This is a black op, so
dont expect any official support.
Snake exits the SDV and begins his swim.
SNAKE

Thats correct. Save for your
wireless radio, youll be going in

BIG BOSS
The enemy fortress is massive. As
I said, this is a fortified
state. A nation of soldiers. Once
youve reached the insertion site

The scene opens up from the perspective of a cam

corder. Snake, adorned in civilian clothes, is sitting in a
dark room, a single light hanging from the ceiling
illuminating the scene. Big Boss walks into the view of the
camera. He walks over to stand across from the Snake on the
other end of the table.
BIG BOSS
I suppose you need no explanation
as to why youre here, am I
correct?
A quick burst of static flashes across the screen follow by
a perspective change showing Snakes face.
SNAKE
Judging by the set up this is a
mission briefing.
SNAKE
Im gonna wager a guess and say its
one hell of an assignment.
Static. Perspective change showing Big Boss. Who has sat
down in his chair. Removing the cigar from his mouth
BIG BOSS
What makes you say that?
SNAKE
By the suits who pulled me from my
date.
An amused smirk appears on Big Bosss face.
BIG BOSS
Sorry to cut into youre personal
life. But its exactly as you
guessed.

Heh. If anything you did me a
favor. She wasnt exactly my type.
Snake lights a cigarette and blows out a puff of smoke.

by western intelligence regarding a
threat to US national
security. The intell warned of a
weapon of mass destruction rumored
to be under construction 200

SNAKE
No. Not at all actually.
BIG BOSS
Im not surprised. Not many are
aware of it. Its one of the
worlds dirty little secrets after
all.

I take it youre aware of the
existence PFs (Private Military
Forces).
SNAKE
Yeah, I encountered a few on both
sides during my time in the Gulf
War. What was the statistic again?
One in Sixty soldiers in the us
army were contracted civilians?

timing on those military budget
cuts. Outsourcing soldiers was the
only means to keep costs down and
enough boots on the ground.
SNAKE
Didnt make my job in the 5th SF
any easier. Trying to keep the
peace between coalition forces is a
lot harder when youve got rookies
and contracted civies in the mix.
SNAKE
Anyway, I take it this "Outer
Heaven" is some sort of PMC
(Private Military Company) then?
BIG BOSS
PMC is an understatement. Its a
fortified state. A nation built by
soldiers for hire.
SNAKE
What? You cant be serious.

From what intelligence I could
gather regarding its establishment,
it was originally founded by some
sort of legendary mercenary.
SNAKE
Legendary mercenary?
BIG BOSS
Find it hard to believe?

Sounds less like intell and more
like the plot of an MSX title.
BIG BOSS
Youd be surprised how word of
mouth changes men on the battle
field. Every war needs its heroes
as well as its villains. People,
soldiers included, have a tendency
to romanticize such figures as an
ideal to follow. Makes it easier to
step back into hell knowing you
have something to live and die for.

Legendary Mercenary.
BIG BOSS
Im afraid thats information we
dont have. All thats available
are a few scattered accounts taken
from battle fields across the globe
that have been skewed by word of
mouth. Though there have been
patterns amongst the myths formed
from his deeds.
BIG BOSS
The most consistent of which was
his alleged role as the man
responsible for sparking the modern
PMC movement of the 1970s.
According to what records we do
have, he established his own PF
with the intent of creating a
mercenary company free from nations
and ideologies, offering combat
support to war torn regions and
developing countries deprived of a
modern military.
BIG BOSS
This of course inspired others to
do the same. Some out of admiration
for the legend. Others for the
business. The latter hiring
themselves out to the highest
bidder for whatever job needed
doing. Wetwork. espionage. No jobs
too dirty so long as the price is
right. As you can imagine these
PMCs became a commodity amongst
nations across the globe.
Governments buying out soldiers to
dispose of whatever baggage they
needed to. Casting blame and
dispensing of them afterwards if
the need arose. Thats the benefit
of Private Forces. Its not your
military. No ties save for money
and a job.
BIG BOSS
As the story goes, this mercenary
became fed up by the political

abuse of his fellow soldiers and
chose to establish a state
liberated from world powers. One
where disillusioned soldiers fresh
from the battle field could escape
to and be guaranteed a place
amongst society, safe and free from
nations that would use them as
fodder for their own agendas.
SNAKE
A veritable "Outer Heaven." Howd
they come across the funding or the
land? If its an independent
military state that means it at
least has some form of official
recognition right?
BIG BOSS
It arose during the time of the
Mozambique Civil War. As South
Africa was heavily involved in the
conflict, supporting RENAMO forces
in their fight against the FRELIMO
government, the situation was ripe
with opportunity for
business. After bargaining with
the South African government,
offering themselves as damage
control against RENAMO who were
revealed to be no better than their
adversary, and to continue the
fight against FRELIMO, a deal was
finally struck. In exchange for
their services, they were promised
a region of land that would be
officially annexed from South
Africa. Their own nation-state to
govern as they saw fit. After the
terms were officially recognized
and government of the region was
passed into their hands, PMCs
across the globe began to be
systematically dissolved. Their
assets, soldiers, armament,
vehicles, were all absorbed by the
new state known as Outer
Heaven. With the additional funds
and clientel from these mergers,
financial security was sealed and
business opportunities became a
never ending commodity. The world

recognize Outer Heaven as an
official nation with its own body
of government, lest their dirty
laundry be aired for every nation
to see.
SNAKE
That would explain why this
legends identity is unknown. Best

recognizing its existance to a
minimum. I take it the United
States was among their clientel.
BIG BOSS
From what I understand we were one
of their best customers. That is
until 72 hours ago...
Big Boss slides the file folder over to snake.
BIG BOSS
To counter the potential threat
posed to the west, FOXHOUND was
given the task of confirming these
accusations. In response,
Operation Intrude N312 was greenlit
not long after.
SNAKE
N312? So an op was already under
taken. I take it by this briefing
that it didnt go as planned.
BIG BOSS
We sent our best agent, Gray Fox,
on a one man sneaking mission. His
objectives were to infiltrate the
fortress, assess whether or not the
enemy do in fact possess weapons of
mass destruction, and to neutralize
any threat that may be posed to the
western world. As the files show he
succeeded in infiltrating the
fortress. From there he scouted the
initial facility nearest the
insertion point confirming the
locations of the inner courtyard,
surveilance cameras, elevators, and
various other weapons and
equipment. Three hours into the

mission Gray Fox discovered a
promising lead. Files pertaining
to the construction of a black
project undergoing development on
site. Before he could detail the
nature of his discovery the enemy
was alerted to his presence. Not
long after we were met with total
radio silence. The last
transmission we received prior to
his capture was a brief two word
reply...
SNAKE
...Metal Gear...
BIG BOSS
Its possible thats the name
designated to the weapon rumored to
be under construction, but without
the necessary intelligence or
evidence to act as confirmation
beyond a reasonable doubt, no
official action can be taken. As
this is an affair of Nations, a
particularly sensitive one at that,
retaliation is not an option unless
there is unanomous approval amongst
NATO. In the end were still
sitting in the dark and it cost us
one of our best.
SNAKE
...For a FOXHOUNDER with the code
name "Fox" to be captured... I
suppose that speaks volumes of the
enemy.
BIG BOSS
These are by no means your average
soldiers. Remember, this is a
fortified state home to soldiers
and mercenaries from all walks of
life.
SNAKE
So then, whats my place in all of
this?
BIG BOSS
After careful consideration, Ive
decided to send you on a follow up
Mission. Operation Intrude N313.

INFILTRATION
The shot begins black, fading in to reveal the dark depths
of the ocean. A man is seen swimming towards the
camera. The shot changes to beneath him as he is shown
swimming to the waters surface. Once more the shot
changes, this time showing the waters surface, as well as
the military facility. A head rises from the water.
The shot changes to show a group of soldiers standing near
the entrance peering out towards the sea. After a moment,
they turn towards the tank warehouses entrance. As they
exit the shot, Snake is seen pulling himself from the
water. The shot changes to show the front of the man, who
is peering over his shoulders. He pulls the breathing
apparatus out of his mouth and hastily undoes his flippers,
allowing them to fall into the water. He rises to his feet
and hurriedly moves towards a stack of storage crates,
quickly kneeling down. He then activates his radio, tuning
the frequency to 120.85.

of enemy fortress, Outer Heaven,
was successful. Kept you waiting

BIG BOSS
Excellent Snake. Operation Intrude
N313 will now commence. Do you

INFILTRATION ENDING
Snake begins undoing the remainder of his scuba gear. The
shot changes to show several of the items dropping to the
ground. Snake rises to his feet, his head tilted down,
hiding his face momentaritly. The shot changes to a close
up shot as he raises his head, showing his face. The last
shot of the scene is a worms eye view, showing Snake
standing tall with the first building looming directly
behind him. Metal Gear Solid Outer Heaven will appear
immediately after. The scene will then fade to
black. Gameplay will begin soon after.

Thats something I need to
know. Look, when I was in the
green berets, we were trained to
immerse ourselves in the culture,
language, and teachings of the
lands wed be shipped to fight
in. It wasnt just to understand
our enemies, but our allies as
well. Because of that training we
were able to coordinate with the
local fighters in the area to help
with operations. Some of us even
came to call them close
friends. Because we were able to
respect and bond with one and other
through understanding of each
others backgrounds we were able to
create a mutual trust. Right now,
none of that exists between us. I
need to know more about you before
I can trust you going forward.
SCHNEIDER
Why? You afraid Ill turn on you
mid mission? Look, Big Boss
vouched for me. Isnt that enough?
SNAKE
Honestly I dont know what to
expect from a man I just met. The
Boss may have vouched for you, but
that doesnt mean Im willing to
put my faith in an unknown
variable.
SCHNEIDER
...Fine. Alright. Before the
rebellion I was proud to call Outer
Heaven my home. I loved my job. I

was damn good at it. Even had a
wife and kid. For a while... This
place really did feel like
heaven. Then my boy was old enough
to start his schooling. That was
my mistake. I had forgotten that
this was a nation for
soldiers. Many came of their own
free will... Others were either
pursuaded or rescued.
SNAKE
Rescued?
SCHNEIDER
Child Soldiers. They were meant to
be taken in and
rehabilitated. Given a chance to
find a life outside of battle. If
they chose to be a soldier it would
be their choice. The problem is
war is all theyve known. Their
lives were ones of constant
violence and death where the rules
were survival at any cost. For
several months he dealt with
threats, violence, bullying,
isolation... And then... He was
admitted to a hospital for a broken
arm, busted ribs, and a fractured
skull.
SNAKE
Damn...
SCHNEIDER
The incident report said they were
playing a game when one of the kids
mistook my son for attacking
him. Survival instincts kicked in
and he reacted.
SCHNEIDER
After serious discussion with my
wife we decided that Outer Heaven
wasnt the place to raise a
family... Unfortunately my attempts
to leave were all denied. I was
the chief architect after all. I
have knowledge regarding every
major military
building. Information that could

jeopardize their fledgling
nation. I was denied again and
again and again. Until finally, my
wife decided to take matters into
her own hands. She hijacked a
supply vehicle with my son and
attempted to make a break for the

Didnt make it?
SCHNEIDER
They were warned again and again to
stop. To turn themselves over or
else theyd... stop them by
force. The traumatization my son
faced from the incident and the
none stop bullying left deep mental
scars. Scars that scared my wife
to no end. I guess fear for our
child and feeling trapped by our
circumstances left her
desperate. I guess it goes without
saying that she only stopped after
they opened fire.
SNAKE
Schneider...
SCHNEIDER
I guess in a way its my fault... My
fault for trying to raise a family
in abnormal conditions... But the
method they used to stop them...
Thats not right... That was too
far... I still believe in this
nation Snake. But it needs to
change.
SNAKE
So you started the rebellion as a
result.
SCHNEIDER
No. The rebellion was there before
I started. Made up of men and
women who shared my sentiments as
well as soldiers snatched from
battle that didnt share the same
ideals that the nation was founded

russian government in the 1970s,
in a secret military research lab
in Leningrad. Thankfully it hasnt
seen any modern day use, although
from what I understand the
Communist Coup considered flooding
the Parliament Building full of it.

Since its creation, the russian
government has kept it a secret. No
one in the world knows its
existance save for a few.
SNAKE
Great... So youre telling me these
guys were some how able to get
their hands on a top secret soviet
chemical weapon?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
From what I understand they have a
man on the inside.
SNAKE
Of course they do... Alright... I
guess thats not whats important.
How toxic of a gas are we talking?
If I grab a gasmask and it ends up
being faulty, whats gonna happen
if I catch a wiff of it?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
To put it bluntly, youll end up
suffering from severe opiod
poisoning within a matter of
minutes. After that, unless an
antidote is administered soon
after, youll die.
SNAKE
Great... Whyd they even install a
security measure like this anyway?
I mean, this is something youd see
in a James Bond flick not reality.
And besides, doesnt this break the
Geneva and Chemical Weapons
Conventions? This alone should be
enough to bring the rest of the
worlds attention to these guys.

come to light. As for the room
itself it was designed as a sort of
gate keeper, ensuring only
authorized personal are able to
gain access. Transfer through
always requires at least three
soldiers, each one carrying an
antidote incase of accidental
exposure. If the second door
doesnt register a key within 5
minutes of the original entry, the
room is ventilated and an alarm is
sounded so that personal can rush
to administer the antidote.
Although I wouldnt count on that
happening if youre exposed.

Sounds like they have their butts

you know where I can locate a gas

Sure. There should be one located
on the 1st floor on the southern

soldier. The one crossing would let
command know ahead of time,
so another soldier can be
dispatched to cut the power by
means of a junction box located on
the other side of the room. The
barriers are meant to protect the
personal working the junction box
from enemy insurgents should the
occasion arise.

So how should I go about crossing?

Well, just to make things easier
now and in the long run, Id
recommend just destroying the
junction box. That way you can
cross it whenever you like.
Thankfully a new weapon just
finished development that will make
short work of this. Its called a
nikita. Its a missile launcher
that fires specially made rockets
capable of being controlled by a
series of controls on the launcher
itself.
SNAKE
An rc missile huh? Sounds
handy. Where can I find it?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
You should be able to find it on
the southwestern part of this
floor.

CAPTURE
Snake comes to a dead end. The sound of multiple footsteps
are heard in the background. Snake turns around. The
footsteps are quick and many, rapidly approaching his
position.
SNAKE
Damn!
Snake looks around for a spot to hide. He sees a series of
supply crates nearby. He runs towards the crates to hide
but a man walks out from behind them. A mercenary of
aboriginal descent walks out from behind them. He is
carrying two large metallic boomerangs in both of his hands,
one resting on his shoulder, the other at his side. A cocky
smirk plastered on his face. Snake skids to a halt, placing
his hand on his berreta.
DIRTY DUCK
And just where do you think youre
going?
Snake turns around to retreat, but is halted by another, a
man in a white flame retardant suit carrying a flame
thrower. Snake halts once more, looking between them. He
pulls out his hand gun aim back and forth, back stepping to
keep them in sight. His back hits the wall.

Shot changes to a birds eye view. Showing the slow approach

of the mercenaries, as well as the appearance of a squad of
soldiers who enter in a hurried fashion, coming to a halt
and aiming their weapons at the intruder. The other two
mercenaries come to a halt as well.
SOLDIER
Drop your weapon or we will shoot!
Snake looks from Dirty Duck, to Firetrooper, then to the
squad of soldiers. A man is approaching from behind the
line of soldiers.
MACHINE GUN KID
Well well well...
The man places his hands on the shoulders of two soldiers
stand in front of him, gently pushing them to the side to
allow him passage. He is an Englishman, adorned in the
traditional Outer Heaven uniform, save for a red beret. A
sub machine gun hangs from a strap on his shoulder.
MACHINE GUN KID
It looks as though weve gone and
snared yet another fox in the hen
house...
Snake has his gun aimed at the englishman, who is still
slowly approaching. The FOXHOUNDers eyes dart between his
adversaries. Machine Gun Kid slows to a halt, placing his
hand on his side.
MACHINE GUN KID
Do yourself a favor and put down
the gun, kid. Youre not weasling
your way out of this one.
Snake coldly watches Machine Gun Kid. The other mercenaries
walk over to stand on either side of the Englishman.
MACHINE GUN KID
Come on now. No need to waste your
life.
Snake hestitates for a moment, still holding the gun up,
breathing uneasily. Finally he closes his eyes and slows
his breathing. He takes one deep breathe and lowers his
aim. Snake slowly puts the safety back on on his berretta
and raises his hands. Lowering his body, he places the gun
on the ground and slides it over towards Machine Gun Kid,
before finally falling to a kneeling and placing his hands
behind his head. A rye smirk appears on Machine Gun Kids
lips.

MACHINE GUN KID

That a boy.
Machine Gun Kid jerks his head towards Snake, motioning for
the other soldiers to approach.
MACHINE GUN KID
Alright men. Bind him up and get
him moving.
The Soldiers suround Snake, guns still aimed at him. One of
the soldiers puts the safety on his weapon and twists it to
his side, allowing it to dangle by strap on his
shoulders. He reaches into a bag the opposite side of his
him from where the gun rests, producing a pare of plastic
straps. The soldier approaches Snake from behind, grabbing
his arms, one at a time, to cuff him with the plastic
bands. Once he is secure, the soldier pulls Snake to his
feet. A bag is drapped over the FOXHOUNDers head soon
after.
DIRTY DUCK
Come on, lets get a move on. We
dont want to keep the good warden
waiting.
Dirty Duck begins to cackle. The soldier who cuffed Snake
retrieves his gun and pokes him in the back with the
barrel. Snake begins moving forward. Two more soldiers
approach him on both sides, placing their hands on his
shoulders to steer him. The mercenaries watch as Snake is
taken away.
DIRTY DUCK
That was almost pitifully easy! If
this is the best they have to
offer, then we really have nothing
to worry about do we?
FIRETROOPER
Do not let all the hardships seem
insignificant to you. For the
waywardness of the naive will kill
them, And the complacency of fools
will destroy them.
DIRTY DUCK
Bah! Take your preaching elsewhere
yah bigot. Weve got him. Theres
no way either of those dogs are
escaping on the Wardens watch.

I agree with Firetrooper. Theres
something off about that one. I
suppose time will tell in the
end. Until then, we stay on guard

The scene ends with a close up of Machine gun kids face

Snake lets out a grunt as he hits the cold hard floor. The
bag is pulled off his head. He looks around towards the
door just in time to see the soldiers closing it behind
them. Snake twists and turns his body until hes lying on
his back. He pulls his legs up and brings his bound arms
around to his front. Snake sits up and pulls a knife from
inside his boot. He holds the knife between his feet and
cuts the plastic binds free. He replaces the knife in its
hidden sheeth and activates his radio.

Snake, whats your status.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news
but...
SNAKE
Well... Im currently sitting in a
cell.
BIG BOSS
What? The enemies captured you...

myself. Enemy didnt just ambushed
me. It was almost as though it
were staged. Only way they could
have known my location was if
theyve been aware of my movements
this whole time.

prisoners thinking they have the

with. Long story short we ended up
sealing it with a basic plaster

block. He hears the cocking of a shotgun and instinctively
ducks for cover. The blast of the shotgun soon follows
narrowly missing him. Snake peers out from cover to see a
solidly built man in a stripped down Outer Heaven uniform
carrying a KS-23 riot shotgun.
SHOTMAKER
That was just a warning shot. Ill
give you one last chance to return
to your cell.
SNAKE
I take it youre this warden Ive
heard so much about.
SHOTMAKER
Youd be right. Im known on the
battle field as Shotmaker.
SNAKE
Youre some sort of legendary
jailer and expert shot gunner

Shotmaker is slumped up against a wall, several crimson
spots slowly expand in size as blood oozes from the chest
wounds, staining his shirt.

His back pressing against the wall, he slides down onto the
floor, leaving a messy red streak marking his descent. As
he sits there, raggedly breathing, he gazes sightlessly
upwards.
SHOTMAKER
...How was I...
Shotmaker begins coughing, blood and spit escape his mouth
and dribble down his lower lip and chin.
SNAKE
You dont get it do you?
Shotmaker looks over towards Snake as he approaches him, the

plastic. Before he can retract his arm, shotmaker grabs
hold of his wrist with his free hand. Snake tries to pull
him off, but Shotmaker pulls him close.

Listen well Snake... Beware the
Zilant... The twin headed
serpent... One head passive eating
nothing but grass... the other
vicious dining on men... Neither
head is to be trusted... Both...

Shotmaker releases Snake. The merc having used the last of
his strength slumps back against the wall. His stare is
glossy eyed and aimless. His breathing shallow and weak.

I know that you do not

Snake reaches back and grabs the KS-23. He unloads the
weapon and places it on Shotmakers lap, guiding the dying
mercs hands to hold it.

Snake stands back up, staring down at the now dead man.

Snake turns and walks away. As he continues walking, the

mercs body explodes. Snake never looks back.

Wait! You just faced off with

I got myself tossed in a cell after
I was caught by an enemy ambush and
faced him not long
after. Thankfully I managed to win
the fight with only a few scrapes

seriously beat Shotmaker. You beat

labor. In the aftermath, the
fantasy gave way to reality and the
battle ground turned from Lerna to
Thebes, my hands caked with blood
of man not beast.

Im saying in the excitement of
battle, I forgot my goal was taking

The camera follows the cigarette as
it falls to the ground.

Machine Gun kid is in the middle of
the shot. The moment the cigarette
hits the ground his body errupts in
an explosion.
Snake is at the door. He looks over his shoulder,
acknowledging the soldiers death for a brief moment, before
exiting the room.
ROOFTOP WIND
Snake walks out the door and enters the rooftop.
Snake steps foot past the barriers and is hit by a huge gust
of wind.

What the-!

The wind knocks him off balance and he stumbles backwards,

barely able to keep on his feet. Once he has retreated back
behind the barriers he pauses for a moment, processing what
happened.
ROOFTOP - CODEC - KYLE - WIND
SNAKE
Schneider. I just got hit by a
huge gust of wind! Whats going
on? Did we just get hit by some
sort of wind storm?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
No, what you just experienced is
another one of Outer Heavens
security measures?
SNAKE
What? Theyre using wind as a
security measure?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
In comparisson to some of the other
measures they employ this ones not
so far fetched. Its really just a
modified version of an agricultural
practice that provides shelter from
wind to prevent soil
errosion. Normally these
windbreaks or shelterbelts use
plantations of trees or shrubs, but
fences can be constructed utilizing
cotton or canvas. Basically,
instead of protecting the entirety
of the rooftop, they placed
windbreaks to redirect gusts
towards certain areas of the
surface. The intended purpose
being to protect against airborne
insertions from enemy
soldiers. Also makes things more
difficult for the enemy should they
succeed in accessing the roof, as
you just experienced. The only
sections where windbreaks are
possitioned to protect against the
wind is the landing platform, and
where youre standing now.

The soldiers who do go on patrols
utilize bomb blast suits due to
their heftier weight. It allows
them enough stability to move from
section to section without the
threat of being knocked down by a
strong gust of wind. It also has
the added benefit of facial
protection from airborne particles
such as dust from obscuring their
vision.
SNAKE
Think there are anymore stored
somewhere around here?
KYLE SCHNEIDER
Yeah, there should be a spare or
two located in the basement.
HIND D PRE BATTLE - JET TROOPERS
Snake approaches the point where he can parachute off the
wall into the courtyard. He peers down below briefly.
JETTROOPER
There he is!!
Snake turns his head around to see several soldiers wearing
jetpacks shoot out from the edge of the building on the
opposite to where snake is standing.
SNAKE
Damn!
HIND D BATTLE - JET TROOPER DEFEAT
Snake stands on the landing platform huffing and
puffing. He suddenly hears the noise of helicopter
propellers and turn towards the landing site. The Hind D is
beginning to take off, its lights flashing down on
him. Snake takes off towards cover, diving in just as a
storm of bullets erupt from the barrel of the Hind Ds
gatling gun.

HIND D DEFEAT
The Hind D begins to spin out of control and hurtles off
away from the building. Snake rushes over to the edge of
the building, watching the aircrafts decent. The
helicopter crashes several kilometers away, its burning
wreckage dimly illuminating the night. Snake turns away
watching the rooftop for signs of the enemy.
PARACHUTE JUMP
Snake peers over the edge to the ground below.
his gear quick, then makes the plunge.

Snake enters the room. The camera pans across the room.
is a make shift lab. Snake walks in towards the table
looking around the room.

right. It looks like theyve
already moved Madnar to a different

I suppose it was too much to hope
for anything else.

Alright Snake, see if you cant
find any information regarding
Madnars whereabouts and move onto
the next facility. I think its
safe to say weve just about
exhausted all our leads here. Grab
whatever weapons and equipment left
that may be useful. Also if there
are any POWs left on site it may
be in your best interest to rescue
them. They may have useful
information and adding bodies to
the resistance will help us in the
long run.

Snake watch yourself in that
desert. The terrain doesnt offer
much in the way of an
advantage. Cover is practically
none existant. Youre at high risk
of being spotted by enemy
patrols. Also that sand offers the
perfect enviroment for setting
traps such as landmines. Unless
you have a mine detector, theres
no way of telling whether youll
find yourself wandering into a
minefield.
SNAKE
Dont worry. Ive got plenty of
experience in desert warfare. Im
right at home in these conditions.
BIG BOSS
Even so, best to take it slow and
watch the enemys movements from a
distance. Remain conscious of your
surroundings. That sands sure to
leave noticeable footprints. If
youre not careful, a patrol could
easily track them back to your
position. The winds will shift the
sands and cover your trail over
time, but until then that will be
another danger to worry about. Also
watch out for any indigenous
wildlife.
SNAKE
Last thing I need is to step in a
cobras den or scorpions
nest. Getting bitten or stung will
make this mission even more of a
pain than it already is.
BIG BOSS
If that happens, youll need to
treat those wounds immediately and
administer an antidote. If you

Snake approaches the ruins of an old enemy outpost. A large
cliff face hovers over top, expanding outwards on both
sides. Directly ahead lay a canyon carved in the middle of
the cliffs With the remains of two large buildings on both
sides of the opening. the buildings exterior heavily worn
by the harsh desert winds. The structures are delapitated,
large holes from age and explosives liter buildings. Snake
falls to a hault behind a piece of rubble nearby. An enemy
patrol stands between the outposts. After a brief
discussion, the patrol splits, three soldiers making their
way down the passage between the buildings, while the other
two walk away from it. Snake waits until the two soldiers
backs are turned to him before he makes his way towards the
building on the left. He haults at the doorway, crouched
down, gun at the ready, and peers in. He rises to his feet
again and swiftly and silently enters the building, gun at
the ready, scanning the room for signs of intruders. Snake
moves across the room to the buildings exit, leading
directly into the canyon itself. He peers out the doorway
and sees nothing. Suddenly he hears the noise of vehicles
approaching. He rushes out the door, and makes his way down
the canyon. It becomes apparent that there are ruined
buildings all along the sides of the canyon, showing that
this had once been a key military pass. Lights suddenly turn
on, blinding him. A tank.
SNAKE
Damn!
Snake looks back to see several vehicles have parked
themselves in the entrance, preventing exit. He rushes into
one of the delapitate buildings and ducks for cover. A
shell bombards the building, shaking its foundation.
CODEC TANK BIG BOSS
SNAKE
Boss! Ive been ambushed by the
enemy! Armored vehicle. Tank.
Unfamiliar make! Retreats not an
option! Ive been cut off by enemy

TANK DEFEAT GRAY FOX
Snake is held out in one of the buildings. He checks his
ammo to find hes out. He peers outside to see the tank on
one end and advancing soldiers on the other.
Suddenly, behind the soldiers a missile is seen soaring
through the air towards the tank. The missile collides

against the tank, errupting in an explosion. The soldiers

look back in shock. Snake looks from the tank to the
direction the missile came from. Gray Fox is seen standing
atop a transport truck for a brief moment before jumping
down, rolling, running, and sliding into cover, barely
avoiding the tanks counterattack. The shell smashes against
the transport trucks, blowing apart the vehicles in a
display of fire and shrappnel. The soldiers have already
split off the unit. The majority going after the new
arrival, whilst the other continue to advance on Snake. Fox,
meanwhile, has already moved out of cover and fired another
missile at the Tank. This time, the attack has done its job,
igniting the hull in flames. The soldiers piloting the tank
force open the top hatch, and quickly attempt to make their
escape, scampering and stumbling across the top, tumbling
over the front. The tank explodes before they can escape the
blast zone, showering them in shrapnel. Fox tosses the
launcher aside and pulls out a berretta and SOG knife. He
fires off several rounds towards the approaching enemies as
he makes his way towards cover. One bullet sinks deep in the
head of one of the lead enemy combatants, burying itself
just above his left eye. Another pierces the right shoulder
of the soldier not far behind him, jerking him back for a
moment, standing exposed. His assault rifle slips away from
his grasp. By this point Fox is already in cover. Another
soldier approaches his injured ally from behind and aids him
in retreating to cover. The injured soldier unholsters his
side arm with his good hand and raises it towards Foxs
position, laying down suppressing fire. Fox ducks back down
behind cover, avoiding the pistol fire. The rest of the
forces moving towards Fox have gotten into cover and have
started laying down fire towards his position. Meanwhile
three soldiers stand at the entrance to the building Snake
is held up in. Two stand with their backs pressed against
the wall on both sides of the doorway. Another is crouched
down, aiming towards the direction of conflict watching his
squads back. One of the soldiers pye the corner and enter
the building. He throws a signal back to his squad mate
to advance. The other soldier standing against the wall
reaches forward and pats his crouched comrade on the
shoulder before rounding the corner himself. The crouched
soldier partially stands backing up into the building. The
camera pans across the room showing the soldiers checking
the building until it reaches a corner showing Snake pressed
against a wall his head turned, listening closely to their
movements. As one gets closer to Snake, he quickly rounds
the corner, disarming the soldier in one swift movement,
ripping the assault rifle from his grasp, flipping it around
to properly hold it. He pushes his disarmed combatant
towards the other forward facing soldier throwing him off
balance. Snake spreads his stance and fires on the one
facing the opposite direction, who was now turning to face
the disturbance, only to face a swarm of bullets that ripped

through his body. As the lead filled soldier stood there,

moments before crumpling to the floor, Snake had already
turned his attention towards the other soldiers. The one
with the gun had pushes his comrade off to the side. He
raised his gun barely halfway before a storm of bullets was
unleashed on him as well. Snake quickly advanced towards the
location of the last living combatant. The soldier had just
unholstered his side arm and was raising it to fire on snake
when he arrived. Snake lowered his aim down at his enemy and
let loose a short burst. The bullets tear into the mans
head. Snake quickly leans forward and pries the hangun from
his enemys cold dead grip. Setting down his assault rifle,
he checks the ammo and chamber before holstering it on his
side. He grabs the enemys ammo bag and grabs another, fully
loaded assault rifle on his way out. He peers outside, to
see the enemy formation. Snake emerges from the building
firing off several shots at the combatants firing on Fox.
After a few quick controlled bursts, taking out another
enemy, Snake rushes towards cover. The sudden confusion
caused by Snake offers Gray Fox the ability to slip out of
cover. Fox advances towards the enemy, firing as he
approaches. Injuring another soldier, who was soon finished
off by Snake who had peeked out of cover once more
unleashing another short burst. Fox runs again from cover,
this time making his way directly towards the enemy, firing
his gun as he approached, to deter the enemy from
immediately firing. Immediately after he falls into a slide
ducking behind the same cover as the enemy. The enemy rises
above cover to fire on him, but Fox reaches forward and

back turned towards Snake. It appears to be Doctor Madnar.

The figure looks over his shoulder at Snake and continues on
with his work.

commotion since your arrival.
Snake holsters his weapon and approaches the scientist.

Snake. Snake instinctively knocks the gun off to the side
away from him just in time to avoid the shot being
fired. Snake moves in close and delivers several strong
blows to the doctor. The doctor falls back against the desk
he was working at. Weakly he raises the gun at Snake once
more, but the Foxhounder kicks it out of his hands. Snake
grabs hold of Madnar, pulling him up to a stand.
SNAKE
Youre going to tell me everything
I need to know or so help me IllMadnar begins to cackle loudly.
MADNAR
Im afraid I cant do that...
Because Im not the real Madnar.
SNAKE

MADNAR
Youve been had kid! Now, Im gonna

decoy as possible. Once the decoy pushes the button, a
recess opens in the floor, revealing a pitfal. The Madnar
Decoy will continue to laugh madly as he falls to his doom.
FIRETROOPER
Snake enters a wide open room. As he steps further inside,
he hears a door open. Snake rolls out of the way as a
stream of fire hurls towards him. The stream subsides
revealing a man covered from head to toe in a white flame
retardant suit, carrying a large flame thrower. Snake
remains in a crouched position, hand on his handgun.
FIRETROOPER
Whomsoever trespasses upon another
mans land with the intent of
shedding mans blood, by man will
his blood be shed.
FIRETROOPER
When you approach a city to fight
against it, thou shall offer terms

the chemical tank on his back having severed, leaking
flamable agent all over the mercenary, forming a puddle at
his feet.
Snake lights his zippo and tosses it at firetrooper. The
man is engulfed in a torrent of flames, the fire errupting
as if a pit from hell had burst forth beneath the
mercenarys feet. He flails about wildly attempting to put
out the flames. The white of his flame retardant suit
begins to burn away to black. He holds his hands up before
him, watching as the white paint is chared away.

Firetrooper explodes. Snake, who fell into a crotch and
covered himself protectively, rises back to a stand,
holstering his weapon as the flames flicker violently before
him.
BIOROIDS BLOODY BRAD
Snake dives for cover behind a supply crate located near the
entrance. He slowly peers over the crate to inspect the
area. Out in the distance he sees a figure with short, wild
blonde hair wearing a black leather jacket (appearance is
meant to mimic the character Randam Hajile, a character from
Snatcher). Once the figure is shown, an arangement of
Creeping Silence (From Snatcher) plays. He is simply
standing there, unmoving, his head turned down towards the
ground. Snake looks towards the door he needs to make his
way to. He peers over cover one last time before move
towards it. He is moving slowly, remaining undercover,
occasionally peering to check on the figures location. He
gets about halfway to his target and peers out of cover once
more. Suddenly the figures head turns upwards before
jolting to a stop momentarily before turning horizontally
towards Snake. The music changes to an arrangement of
Endless Pursuer (again from Snatcher). His head stops
turning, and his eyes light up, shining crimson. The figure
begins to make its way towards Snake, his body movement
stiff and robotic. Snake rises from cover, aiming his gun
at the enemy. He takes a cautionary step back away from the
robotic man, hesitating on whether or not he should
fire. Finally he takes a step forward, gritting his teeth
and fires off several shots at the approaching
adversary. The shots collide against Bloody Brads chest,
the sound of bullets ricocheting against metal is
heard. Bloody brad continues his approach, unphased by the
assault. A look of shock flashes across Snakes face.
SNAKE
What?
He briefly looks at his gun then back to Bloody Brad. Snake
grits his teeth and fires off several rounds as he slowly
backs away.

Snake studies the scientist for a moment before finally

begin with, this is not the first

colleague of mine during my brief
tenure at the granin research and
development lab in what had once
been known as Tselinoyarsk, prior
to the regions split after the

Yes, all of which either resulted
in failure, or were destroyed in
battle. The only surviving
salvageable version was one located
deep beneath the atlantic ocean off
the coast of Costa Rica that we had

in the creation of this iteration
was to expand upon the initial
design and fix the flaws of the
original. Also, I was to make it a
manned machine.

No. Originally it was to be
controlled by an onboard AI located
within the head of the
machine. While the deralict
remains of the recovered Metal Gear
had the basic framework for a
cockpit, it was quite obvious that
it was nothing more than a work in
progress at the time. The cockpit
design for a weapon such as this
would need to have adequate
protection and shielding from the
ballistic force from enemy
armaments, the heat and shaking of
the missile launcher, and any
sudden violent movements born from
evasive maneuvers. As such, the

initial challenge of creating a
functioning pilotable metal gear
would be to create a stable
enviroment to protect against these
issues whilst keeping it light
enough for the legs to bare the
load.

Alright... So, what changes did you
make to the weapon?
MADNAR
The first task of development on
the TX-55 would be design of the
cockpit. The first design proposal
we decided to pursue was utilizing
a newly described type of
multi-component alloy called High
Entropy Alloy. While we succeeded
in creating an alloy with the
properties we had hoped for, light
weight and immensely durabile, the
components utilized to create it
were too costly to be feasibly
incorporated throughout the
weapon. Instead, we used the alloy
to create the cockpits frame and
built the hull utilizing 30-110 mm
tungsten armor. We also developed
a special heat-resistant ceramic to
protect the pilot from the heat of
missile lauch. From there we
developed a system that would react
and move the cockpits interior,
the seat and control panel, to
counteract violent movements that
could potentially harm the
pilot. The system was linked to an
onboard computer that monitored and
stabilized the weapons
movements. Thus ensuring that the
cockpit moved in tandum with the
weapons movement. As an added
precaution, we lined the interior
of the machine with sensors
designed to detect high volumes of
kinetic force so the system would
react to accommodate against heavy
balistic force. Finally, we needed
to ensure that the pilot would be
both protected and able to see. To

mounted a high definition head cam
on the top of the cockpit that was
capable of infrared and night
vision as well as normal
sight. Its also able to raise and
lower, as well as turn a full 360

to ensure it is not easily
destroyed.

What about the armaments?
MADNAR
As Metal Gear would be a high
profile target should the enemy
become aware of its location in the
field, we outfitted it with quite
the assortment of weapons to aid in
combating enemy forces. To protect
itself from enemy aircraft, we
outfit a light weight infrared
homing SAM system to the top rear
of the cockpit. For infantry and
armored vehicles, a GAU-8/A was
attached to the weapons side,
directly below the main missile
launcher. Finally, located directly
beneath the cockpit is an
experimental laser canon that
utilizes deuterium fluoride
chemical laser technologies that we
were able to scale down for use
against personal attempting to
attack directly beneath.

Its a modified version of the
MIM-104 Patriot launcher that we
attached to the side of the
cockpits hull.

developments, primarily the
endoskeleton and artificial skin,

biological elements and lack any
semblance of self
awareness. Instead they are
autonomous drones developed for
insertion into combat heavy hot
zones that possess high casualty
risks and rescue operations in
hazardous enviroments.

How do they operate?

An on board VI, developed to house
information on battle field
tactics, is located in the
skull. This neural case as I have
called it, is connected to a set of
cyber eyes, high definition cameras
developed to mimic the appearance
and functionality of the human eye,

capable of sorting out noise based
on sound and distance. These allow
it to process battle field
information and react accordingly,
accessing its onboard library of

up on one hand. His appearance is similar to Randam
Hajiles battle torn body at the end of Snatcher. He looks
up at Snake.
The perspective changes to a first person
view of Bloody Brad looking at Snake. A digital hud is
displayed across his vision as it scans his
adversary. Suddenly the red tint of the sight begins to
distort. Brad looks down and peers at his hand. The color
distorts and shifts to green.
BLOODY BRAD

He slowly closes his hand in to a fist
BLOODY BRAD
R-r-randam... Ha-ha-hajile...
The cyberoid looks back up at Snake who watches the display
with a perplexed expression. The perspective changes back
to 3rd person. Bloody Brad pushes himself back to his feet,
head turned down, hiding his eyes. Once he is standing, a
close up of his face is shown, eyes closed. Once his eyes
open it is revealed that they have converted from a red glow
to that of green.
The cyberoid begins his advance towards Snake.

BLOODY BRAD
R-r-ran-d-dam hajile ma I-I-I....
In a moment of desperation, Snake pulls out his handgun and
lodges it in the cyberoids mouth. Screaming, the
FOXHOUNDer unleashes an entire clip into Bloody Brad.
The cyberoid remains still.
Snake is panting hard. The
Cyberoid pulls his arm back, the movement stuttery. Snake
immediately scrambles away, kicking his feet against the
ground to push himself further and further from his
adversary. As he moves he quickly reloads his gun and
stops, aiming his weapon, watching for movement.
Bloody Brads head turns upwards in a stuttering
motion. The green eyes flicker dimmly.

As his voice trails off, so do the lights in his eyes. The
Cyberoid explodes soon after. Snake turns away, covering

BUILDING 3 -DIRTY DUCK- DEATH
Duck stumbles back, clutching his side.
DIRTY DUCK

Dirty Duck cocks an arm back
DIRTY DUCK
I wont let you win.
Duck hurls a boomerang in Snakes direction. Snake
instinctively raises his gun, but the projectile proved
faster than he anticipated. Snake jumps back away from the
boomerang, the weapon clashing against his gun as it wirls
through the air, cause the fire arm to be knocked away from
the Foxhounders grasp. The boomerang makes a return trip
back towards Duck. Without thinking, Snake rushes at his
adversary. Duck catches his weapon and cocks back once
more. He quickly tosses it back at Snake.
Snake!

JONATHON
The trap!

Snake hesitates for a moment before finally ducking under

the weapon hurling towards him. He feels the floor give way
and lunges forward. A recess opens in the floor of the room
revealing a pitfall. He hits the edge of the pit hard
clinging for his life. Teeth grit he attempts to quickly
climb out.
Duck approaches the dangling Snake catching the boomerang
effortlessly. He looks down at his adversary, a cocky grin
on his face.
DIRTY DUCK
Like I said... Any means
necessary... Say hello to my
comrades in hell!
Jonathon has gotten to his feet and throws himself, shoulder
first, against Ducks back. The mercenary falls forward,
twisting himself around to try and regain his balance.
DIRTY DUCK
What!?
The last shot of duck is of him plunging into the darkness,
hand outstretched.
Snake watches as his adversary falls.
Jonathon who helps him back up.

He grabs hold of

Move!

Snake grabs Jonathon and pulls him away from the

pit. Moments later an explosion erupts from the trap.

SNAKE
Jennifer. Dirty Ducks been dealt

JENNIFER
What about the POWs?

mind, we need to think about your

Your escape? You talk as if you
wont be joining us.
SNAKE
I wont. Theres no guarantee of
my survival. Thats why you need
to arrange some sort of escape
route. With the resistance gone,
youll need to find some other way
to arrange safe passage out of
here.
JONATHON
Wait! The resistance is... Damn...
SNAKE
Here hold on a moment.
SNAKE
Diane.
Hey Snake.

DIANE
What can I do for you?

SNAKE
I just defeated Dirty Duck and
saved Jennifers brother.
DIANE
Thats great to hear!
SNAKE
Listen, all thats left for me to
do is destroy Metal Gear. That
being said, I need you to arrange
some sort of escape method for the
survivors still on site.

far. I dont intend to die in a
place like this. Once my
objectives complete, Ill find my
own means of escape.
DIANE

SNAKE
Ill give Jennifer your frequency
as well as everyone elses. That
should make it easier to set up a
plan.
DIANE
Okay. Ill do everything I

BUILDING 3 -POST DIRTY DUCKSnake turns to Jonathon who has just finished unbinding his
fellow prisoners. Jonathon rises back to his feet.
SNAKE
Im continuing on with my
mission. Get topside and find a
place to hold out until you get
word about the escape plan.
Jonathon nods, and offers his hand out to Snake. Snake
accepts the gesture, grasping the mans hand
tightly. Jonathon reaches out with his free hand and places
it on Snakes shoulder.

Snake walks into the construction zone. The perspective
changes to show the metal gear, starting at its legs and
panning upwards.

Still determined to carry out your
mission I see.
Snake readies his weapon, looking around for the source of
the noise. Metal gear activates.
SNAKE
What the-?
Metal Gear takes several steps forward.
SNAKE
Dammit! Am I too late!?
Metal gear halts before snake.
VOICE
Youre pretty good.

A wide shot is used capturing the hanger from a ground level
with Solid Snakes back facing the camera. Metal gears
cockpit opens. A man stands up.

The shot zooms in revealing the man standing in Metal Gears
cockpit to be Big Boss, a cigar in his mouth and dressed in
a heavy variant of Outer Heavens combat suit.

Shot switches back to Snake.

incapable of continuing the
mission. I then decided to send
you. Not because I thought you
capable. On the contrary. I was
certain that you would doom the
mission.
BIG BOSS
Instead... Here we stand. You
successful overcame all of my traps
and the best men my army had to
offer. But Im afraid you are too
late. Despite your best efforts,
Metal Gear has been completed.
Big Boss sits down in the cockpit, closing the canopy.
SNAKE
Boss! Wait!
BIG BOSS
The time for words is at an
end. Now, face me Snake. Face the
agent of your doom.
Snake raises his gun at Metal Gear. The camera pans back,
Snakes back against the camera Metal Gear loaming over
him. The scene fades to a flash of white and Transitions
into the battle against Metal Gear.
BIG BOSS METAL GEAR DEFEATED
Metal gears legs begin to explode and spark. The machines
legs struggle to hold the weight of its top half. Finally
the machine topples back, crashing against the floor. Snake
looks around at the scene. Flames dance across the floor
and the machine. Snake straightens himself.

BIG BOSS
Over here Snake!
Snake looks towards the source of the noise, raising his gun
instinctively. The shot shows a figure looking back at him
before a doorway. Flames flickering in the foreground. The
figure exits the room. Snake takes off after the man.
BIG BOSS PRE FIGHT
Snake presses his back against the wall before the
door. After a moment, he rushes into the next room gun
raised.
Looking around he sees no one. The room itself is
a maze of storage crates that tower several high. Gritting
his teeth, he cautiously moves forward, checking in every
which direction that his adversary could come from. He
reaches the middle of the room. He hears the faint sound of
burning and the smell of cigar. He quickly turns around to
see Big Boss sitting atop a smaller crate, pulling from his
cigar. An M16 sits leaning against the stack. Snake holds
his aim on Big Boss, cautiously moving back. Big Boss
exhales a stream of smoke in an unbothered fashion.
BIG BOSS
Put that thing away soldier.
Snake keeps his gun aimed at his former commanding
officer. Big Boss turns the cigar around in his hand,
inspecting the side of it.
BIG BOSS
I never thought youd make it this
far. In truth, I was certain you
were doomed to fail from the
start.
Big Boss lets out an exasperated sigh before pushing himself
back to his feet.
SNAKE
Dont move!
Big Boss simply stares at him expressionlessly. After a
moment, Big Boss places the cigar back in his mouth and
begins stepping forward.
SNAKE
What are youSnake begins to back away but forces himself to halt.

SNAKE
I said dontBig Boss simulataneously extends his leg nearest Snake,
placing it directly behind the rookie and grabs hold of the
barrel of Snakes berreta with one hand and turns it upwards
with a swift jerk. He brings his other hand down in a chop,
targeting the area between the bicep and forearm of Snakes
gun arm. The berretta is ripped from the young FOXHOUNDers
hand. With the hand utilized as a chop, the FOXHOUND
commander pushes against the front of the shoulder of
Snakes gun arm. Hitting his leg, Snake is pushed off
balance and sent hurtling to the ground, releasing a grunt
upon impact. Snake looks up at Big Boss who is standing
over him, beretta at his side. Big Boss turns around once
more and walks over to the crate where he had previously
sat, removing the cigar from his mouth and release another
stream of smoke as he advances. Snake props himself up on
his elbows. The FOXHOUND commander turns the gun over in
his hand to inspect it.
BIG BOSS
Lifes end... Isnt it tragic?
And ends his inspection of the gun, resting his forearm on
his knee, the guns barrel aiming downward towards the
ground between his legs.
BIG BOSS
Its almost beautiful...
Snake pushes himself up from the ground to stand.
BIG BOSS
Ive been waiting for this moment
Snake...
Big Boss is staring upwards in deep thought.
BIG BOSS
Your birth... Your growth...
Big Boss rests his gaze back on Snake.
BIG BOSS
And the finality of today.

lips.

Big Boss pushes himself back to his feet.

With the advent of the cold war,
the world was torn apart by fear
and deception.
Big Boss closes his eyes painfully, before turning his head
to the side, gazing into the distance somberly.
BIG BOSS
We live in a day and age where men
and women such as ourselves are
used as tools to deceive friends
and enemies alike. One where the
reward for loyalty is personal
sacrifice. Patriotism has become a
trait to exploit by the powers of
government. Using it as a means to
commit attrocities in the name of
the petty ambitions of small minded
men that reek of hypocracy. Even
though the conflict of east and
west has thawed... Its sins have
left a stain thats spread across
the world. Many of us left our
countries... Disillusioned by the
revelation that being a patriot
meant nothing. So we left to fight
for ourselves. Showing loyalty
only to ourselves and the beliefs
we clung to. Yet there was still
no escape from the
exploitation. Only now, the line
between friend and foe changes with
the passing of the
hour. Yesterdays friend, a fellow
brother in arms, could be the
adversary on the other end of the
barrel of your gun. A soldiers
skills are not meant to be used
against those we call friend...

Tell me Snake... Is there such
thing as an enemy? A true timeless
enemy?
BIG BOSS
The answer is no. And that is
because we our human. Each of us
possess our own series of beliefs,
born from the experiences and
observations made and felt
throughout our waking years. What
one may see as good and pure may be
considered vile and evil by
another. And that is because we
each experience life
subjectively. Though we live
amongst one and other, we remain
seperated by the differing trials
and tribulations that shape our own
personal view of the world. A view
that when threatened by the
conflict of anothers, births
disparity. That is how societies
are born. By the unification of
like minded individuals. Working
together towards a cause they
believe in.
BIG BOSS
That is why I created Outer Heaven
Snake. It wasnt just intended as
a safe haven for fellow soldiers to
escape abuse and be guartanteed a
place amongst society. More
importantly it was a means to break
down the psychological borders that
manifest through idealogical
difference. Here, loyalty to
oneself meant loyalty to your
nation. Though we each share
differing view points, our personal
loyalty to the ideal of Outer
Heaven bound us together as free
men and women, a family of
soldiers, fighting for what we
believed in. Through offering
ourselves as an army, fighting for
others despite the inherent
difference in view, we could spread
this ideal to others. Both to
individuals and nations. An
example to strive for.

rather to be a deterrent to protect

single handedly defeated everything
that this nation had to offer. You
defeated my traps, my strongest
soldiers, and, just moments ago,
our deterrent. The greatest threat
to plague the 20th century...

And yet I feel nothing... No
pain... No hatred... Not even
regret. And yet... When I look at
you I feel... Pride.

You chose loyalty to yourself in

Big Boss activates his radio.

Big Boss drops his hand away from his ear piece and looks at
Snake, his movements slow.

means to be a soldier. I gave you
weapons. Taught you techniques.
Endowed you with knowledge. And
passed on the legacy of my past for
you to learn from.
BIG BOSS
There is nothing more I can offer

Big Boss approaches Snakes, placing the cigar back in his
mouth and grabbing the barrel of the beretta in his now free
hand. He halts before Snake and offers the gun, grip first,
to him. Snake looks up at Big Boss before hesitantly
grasping the gun.
BIG BOSS
One must live. And one must
die. No victory, no defeat. The
survivor will carry on, living a
life of endless conflict.
Big Boss releases his hold on the weapon.
BIG BOSS
This is our fate.
Big Boss turns away from Snake walking towards the crates he
sat on moments ago. He halts for a moment, taking one last
puff from his cigar, before dropping it to the floor and
crushing it with his boot.
BIG BOSS
From this moment on, we are
equals. No ranks, no chain of
command. We stand before each
other as fellow soldiers.
Big Boss retrieves the M16 propped against the crates. He
checks the weapon over quickly before turning once more to
face Snake.
BIG BOSS
Let us end this. Once and for
all.
Big Boss raises his gun towards Snake.

Big Boss is lying on the ground. Snake approaches him,
stopping to stand over his former commander.

The shot turns to a birds eye view. Big Boss lying on the
ground and Snake standing over him, his berretta aimed at
his commanding officer. The playing will be forced to press
the fire button themselves. Once this is done, the berretta
fires off a round, the gunshot ringing. Big Bosss head
jerks back. A close up of the side of Big Bosss head is
shown, his head still jerked back momentarily before finally
turning towards the camera lifelessly. A gunshot wound is
shown in the upper right section of his forhead (where
venoms horn had once been), blood trickly down across his

face. Snake stands there for a moment, the arm holding his
gun lowering to his side.
The room suddenly flashes begins flashing red.
ANNOUNCER
Attention all personal on site! The
self destruct sequence has been
activated. I repeat! The self
destruct sequence has been
activated! This is not a
drill! All personal, evacuate
immediately!
SNAKE
Damn!
Snake rushes out of the room.
ESCAPE 1
After exiting the room and fighting off several soldiers,
Snake makes his way to a transportation tunnel located on
the otherside of what had once been metal gears
construction site. Snake begins making his way down the
tunnel.
SOLDIER
Hold it!
Snake turns around to see a large group of soldiers lined up
behind him. Their guns aimed at him.
SOLDIER
You killed him. You killed the
Boss.
SNAKE
What the hell are you doing!?
place is gonna blow!

SOLDIER
We dont care. We were here
because of the Boss. We stayed,
fought, lived, because of his
dream. Now its dead, and well
gladly die with it. But before
then, well do him justice and take
vengeance on the man who cut him
down!

The sound of a vehicle engine is heard from behind the men,

growing louder and louder with each passing second. The
group of soldiers look back to see a jeep rapidly
approaching.
SOLDIER
What the-!
Snake quickly uses the diversion to duck out of the way of
the soldiers, run and diving behind a support beam located
nearby. His movement draws the attention of some of the
soldiers who begin firing on him, but Snakes movement is
fast enough to avoid the bullets. The moment Snake began
his retreat, the driver, armed with an assault rifle and
using the side mirror to stabilize the weapon as he holds it
with one hand, opens fire on the soldiers. Several of the
soldiers open fire on the vehicle, before diving out of the
way to avoid the vehicle. The driver brings the vehicle to
an abrupt hault by the column that snake dove
behind. Instinctively, Snake jumps into the back of the
jeep, keeping himself to the floor to avoid the new barrage
of gun fire. Snake looks over at the driver to see that it
is none other than Gray Fox.
SNAKE
Fox!?
GRAY FOX
Looks like I got here just in
time. All thats left is to get
our asses out here before the place
blows sky high.
Gray Fox looks in his rear view mirror to see several pairs
of headlights fast approaching.
GRAY FOX
Dammit! Looks like were about to
have company! Get on that machine
gun and keep them off of us!
SNAKE
Right!
ESCAPE 2
GRAY FOX
Theres the lift!
Snake looks back to see the transport elevator just a little
ways ahead. The lights on the lift start going off. A horn
sounds signaling its about to ascend.

SNAKE
Are you kidding me!?
A barrage of gun fire sprays towards their directing.
GRAY FOX
Snake!
SNAKE
On it!
Using the turret on the back of the jeep, Snake unleashes a
storm of bullets towards the soldiers on the slowly
ascending lift. The rookie FOXHOUNDer unleashes a primal
scream as lead pumps out from the weapon.
He takes out two of the soldiers while three others attempt
to move out of the way of the turrent fire. One of the
soldiers on the lift lobs a grenade, aiming at the path of
the jeep. Moments after the grenade leaves his hand, he is
hit by a storm of bullets, along with another of his
compatriots. The last one takes a shot to the arm and leg
falling to the ground. The grenade explodes just in front
of them, the shrappnel rupturing the tires, causing it to
skid out of control.
GRAY FOX
Dammit! Grab hold of something!
The jeep skids sideways, still heading towards the direction
of the lift. The vehicle finally tops over on its side in a
roll, sending Snake flying from the vehicle. The screen
turns black.
ESCAPE 3
The shot is in first person.
Snake looks around, dazed from the impact. As he looks
around, he suddenly realizes that he is on the lift.
SNAKE
What...
Panting he turns himself over, grunting in pain, his body
sore. He sees the lefts edge.
SNAKE
Fox...

He pushes himself up with all of his strength, throwing

himself to the edge. He looks down to see that the Jeep
skid to a halt just below. Fox is pulling himself out of
the drivers seat.
SNAKE
Fox!
Fox looks up to see Snake at the edge.
FOX
Snake?
SNAKE
Fox! You have to jump!
Snake extends his arm. Fox looks behind him, taking a few
steps back, before breaking into a short sprint along the
side of the jeep and leaping with all his might. Foxs hand
connects with snakess wrist, grasping it tightly. Snake
cries out in pain as the weight of the man sends waves of
agony coursing up his arm. He grits his teeth, biting back
the screams as he attempts to pull Fox up. Fox reaches up
with his free arm, grabbing the arm sleeve of Snakes
fatigues. Having gained enough height Fox reaches up
towards the lip of the lift. Snake pulls his arm up, thus
bringing Foxs other arm closer to the top. Fox latches on
and pulls himself over the edge. Snakes body finally
gives. Lying on his stomach, his head and forearm dangle
over the edge. His mind dazed and numb from the
exursion. Suddenly hes pulled away from the edge, dragged
by his feet. The movement is enough to bring him back
enough to realize that his head had nearly been crushed by
the transport tunnels ceiling. Fox turns him over,
breathing heavily.
FOX
That was one hell of a close call
rookie.
FOX
How you feeling?
Snake grunts in pain.
FOX
I bet.
FOX
Lets look you over quick.

A soldier is seen slowly approaching behind Fox. His

fatigues are caked in blood from his injuries. One arm
dangling at his side. The other holding a knife. The enemy
is hobbling towards them, his leg obviously injured. Snake
releases a grunt.
SNAKE
F-fo...
FOX
Snake?
SNAKE
Be- Be...
Fox turns just intime to see the injured soldier lunge at
him, screaming madly from the agony of the violent
movement. Fox brings his forearm up to block the assault,
the knife sinking deep into the flesh and muscle and exiting
on the otherside. Fox lets out a cry of pain as he is
pushed to the ground, arm shaking as he attempts to hold the
man back, unable to use his other arm, which is propped
underneath him.
Snake looks down to grab his handgun, but is shocked to find
its not there. He looks around to see its back where he had
initially land. Looking around, he sees the body of one of
the soldiers he killed earlier, still clutching his assault
rifle. Fox cries out in pain. Snake looks back to see that
the soldier had finally pushed Foxs arm down enough for the
point of the knife protruding from the exit wound to sink
into the area between the chest and shoulder. Fox pulls his
arm out from under him, no longer serving any purpose, and
grabs hold of the soldiers neck. The soldier responds by
digging the knife around. Snake quickly looks back towards
the rifle, and attempts to drag himself towards it. He is
nearly there.
FOX
Snake!
Snake looks back to see the soldier standing over Fox, his
boot on his combatants arm, the hand of his good arm tightly
clentching the hilt of the knife. With a quick strong jerk,
the soldier rips the knife away from Fox and begins hobbling
over towards him. Summoning all his strength, Snake forces
himself over in a scrabble. He grabs hold of the rifle and
pulls it towards him. When he hears a cry and a thud. He
looks over his shoulder quickly to see the soldier on the
ground, looking back at Fox whos hand is tightly clutching
his combatants leg. The soldier kicks Fox in the face,
stunning the FOXHOUNDer enough to loosen his grip. The
soldier frees himself quickly and uses his good arm, digging

his knuckles into the ground for stability, to push himself

up. Snake quickly turns over, rifle in hand. The soldier
screams knife poised to strike. Time slows adrenaline
pumping. Snake unleashes a mighty scream as he pulls the
trigger. Bullets rip through the soldiers chest. The
screen fades to white.
The screen fades from white back in to a 3rd person
perspective. Snake is lying with his back on the ground,
still clutching his rifle. In the foreground, the soldiers
knife is seen falling towards the ground.
Fox is shown
next, watching as the knife colides and skitters against the
ground for a moment before looking back up at the
soldier. The shot changes to show the soldier, weakly
standing, arms dangling at his side. In the center of his
chest, a splotch of crimson is expanding outwards, staining

assault rifle into Snakes arms.

The moment we hit the top, we
run. Got it? If we cant make it
out of the blast zone we duck for
cover. Theres bound to be
stragglers making their own
escape. If they fire at us, run
and gun. Dont stop for anything.

ESCAPE GAMEPLAY
Snake and Gray Fox exit the lift. The gameplay will be a
straight run for the end. Enemy soldiers will randomly
appear to attempt to stop them. A timer will be running all
the while. Once they have reached the destination a
cutscene will play.
ESCAPE 5
Snake and Gray Fox slide behind a sand dune and go prone,
covering their heads with their arms. The facilities errupt
in a massive explosion. Several cuts showing the
Snake and Gray Fox peak out over the dune to observe the
remains of Outer Heaven.
Snake turns back over and stares at the sky.
tuned his frequency to call FOXHOUND.

Good to hear your voice too

EPILOGUE
Flashes of the games events play over in a fast and violent
manner. The ambushes, and mercenary deaths being the most
prominent. The flash back ends with Big Bosss death. The
scene cuts to a close up of Snakes upper face, beads of
sweat dripping down his forehead. He is panting
violently. The shot changes to show him sitting up in his
bed. Shoulders heaving, as he grips his bed sheets
tightly. He looks over at the clock on his bed stand to see
that it is early in the morning, around 4ish.
The shot changes to show a television set, displaying the
news. Snake is sitting in a chair in the living room of his
apartment. Retrieving a cigarette from his pack of lucky
strikes, he places it in his mouth, and tosses it to the

REPORTER
In other news, President Nelson
Mandela has just released a
statement regarding a series of
violent tremors that shook a small
region in South Africa earlier this
week.
Snake pulls out his lighter, leaning forward in his seat, he
lights his cigarette and sets the lighter on the coffee
table. With the same hand he pulls an ash tray closer to
him, as he pulls from his cigarette, the embers glowing a
bit brighter. With his free hand, he grabs the filter of
his cig between his index and middle finger, and pulls the
cig from his mouth, exhaling a cloud of smoke. He lowers
the cig down to the ash tray and flicks the filtered end
with the tip of his thumb, causing ash to crumble away from
the cigs lit end. He looks up towards the screen of
television. As he does these actions, the news report
continues on.
REPORTER
The tremors have been alledgedly
linked to a series of earthquakes
that ravaged and destabilized the
area. The government has
dispatched a military blockade
prohibiting all travel to the
region. Stating that it has become
too dangerous for human travel. It
should be noted that he has assured
that the area in question was
uninhabited and no reports of death
or injury have been reported.
Snake shakes his head and grunts in frustation, and smothers
the cigarette in the ash tray. The shot changes to show the
ash tray with the cigarettes filter protruding from
upwards, a faint trail of smoke rolling upwards. In the
background, Snake opens the door to exit his apartment,
grabbing his coat from the hangers situated directly to the
right of the doorway. Pulling it off, he swiftly exits the
apartment, shutting the door quickly behind him.
The shot changes to Snake walking into the lobby of
FOXHOUNDs HQ, hands in his coat pockets and head
lowered. The scene suddenly turns to slow motion as Snakes
head looks up towards movement down the hall. Walking
towards him with a hardened look on his face is Gray Fox,
his stare cold looking past Snake towards the

exit. Directly behind him is Roy Cambell who is chasing

after him. He shouts after him, calling out "Fox!" (no
vocalization), but his attempts at getting his attention are
in vain. Snake has halted in place watching the scene
before him. Fox does not make any eye contact with Snake
save for the moment he passes him. Fox turns his head
slightly, glancing over at Snake from corner of his eyes
before turning his gaze back towards the exit. Snakes
stare is dead ahead. Time returns back to its normal
flow. Campbell is about to pass Snake, when Snake stops him
by placing his hand on the mans shoulder. Campbell looks
over at Snake with a look of confusion. Snake continues
staring dead ahead, adopting the cold gaze of Fox. Snake
closes his eyes for a moment, release an exasperated sigh,
before finally continuing down the hall. The shot shows
shows Snake in the foreground, facing the camera, with Fox
in the background, his back facing he camera as he
exits. Campbell stands in the middle looking towards
Snake. As Campbells head turns, to look back towards Fox,
the perspective changes. The shot is the same, but it is
now Fox in the foreground and Snake in the background. The
shot changes to a birds eye view showing the two soldiers
walking in opposite directions one last time with Campbell
still between them.
Campbell sighs and looks down. He pulls out a slip of paper
stating his promotion. FOXHOUNDs new commander. The final
shot is a ground level shot, panning away from Campbell who
is standing in the middle of the lobby by himself. The shot
finally fades to black.
ARLINGTON CEMETARY - FINAL LEGACY
The scene fades in from black, showing the red sky of
dusk. The shot pans down to show a figure walking through
arlington cemetary. The shot switches to the back of an
individual, showing only his shoulders and the back of his
head as he makes his approach. The shot changes to a ground
level wide shot, showing the silouette of the man
approaching a series of gravestones, slowing to a stop. The
shot changes to a close up of the side of Snakes face. He
is staring down expressionlessly. The shot turns to the
Patriots gravestone, before panning to the right to show
another. Big Bosss. The next shot is a worms eye view
with the top of Big Bosss grave peaking up from the botton,
and Snake towering over it in the background.
Snake pulls an item from his coat pocket. The
bandanna. Clentching it tightly in a fist, the cloth
dangling on both sides, he stares at it coldly.

He takes a step forward and falls into a kneel before the

headstone, turning his clentched hand over and extending it
out towards the ground before the grave in offering. Before
it reaches the ground, he hesitates for a moment, the
bandannas cloth dangling only a few inches from the earth.
Over Snakes shoulder two figures approach him. Himself and
Big Boss. Big Boss is holding a bouquet of white lillies
dressed in his titular trench coat, while Snake is in his
casual attire.
SNAKE
What are we doing here?
BIG BOSS
Theres something I wanted to show
you.
Big Boss stops in front of a gravestone. On it is written
"In Memory of A PATRIOT who saved the world." Snake glances
over Big Bosss shoulder.
SNAKE
A patriot...
Big Boss falls to a kneel before the monument, laying the
bouqet reverently before the headstone. There he remains
for, kneeling in silence for a moment. Snake remains
standing behind him, hands in the pockets of his leather
jacket, observing the scene.
BIG BOSS
Solid Snake...
BIG BOSS
Do you know why you were named as

Snake shrugs dismissively.
SNAKE
I always thought it had something
to do with ranking.
BIG BOSS
With the exception of Fox, no.
Big Boss rises to his feet, still gazing at the headstone.

recollection. Snake approaches Big Boss to see what he was

raises it up, dipping his head down, and wrapping it around
his forehead. He raises his head slowly, to meet Big Bosss
gaze. Big Boss nods in acceptance.

Big Boss continues walking away. Snake stares at his
back. After a moment he glances back briefly towards the
Patriots gravestone before leaving. Snake watches the
ghost of his memory fade away as he remains kneeling before
Big Bosss grave. He turns back to face the headstone
before him. Slowly, he pulls his hand back towards him,
rising to his feet. He turns his hand back over again,
relaxing his grasp on the bandanna, studying it. With his
other hand, he gently grabs one of the dangling ends and
moves the other down to the opposite end of the cloth. He
brings the Bandanna up to his forehead, wrapping it around
and tying it off, pulling it tight with a sharp tug. No
more than a few seconds later, he puts himself into
attention, followed by a salute. A flash of metal gear
solid 3 quickly flickers across the screen, the scene
mimicing Big Bosss final salute to The Boss. The shot
slowly closes in on Snake before the scene is suddenly
