Anderson Faces Opponent at Community Debate

HOUSTON Tonight, at the Kingdom Builder's Center, Windsor Village Pastor
Kirbyjon Caldwell welcomed the community to a debate for the candidates for
Harris County District Attorney. Khambrel Marshall, KPRC-TV (NBC) Channel 2
moderated the one-hour event, asking the candidates tough questions.
Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson was repeatedly interrupted by
applause by an engaged and sometimes rowdy crowd.
Anderson underscored her record of accomplishments in office, including working
on strategies to focus prosecution on money laundering, child exploitation, animal
cruelty, and innovative diversion programs to give first time offenders a chance to
avoid convictions.
Anderson has worked to build relationships in the community through her
appearances at town hall meetings, and leading her employees to greater
involvement in charitable programs and other community service and outreach
efforts.
The opponent, criminal defense lawyer Kim Ogg, provided a very different
approach. She focused on dramatically curtailing misdemeanor prosecution a pick
and choose approach to the administration of justice in Harris County.
The audience gave Anderson a standing ovation at the conclusion of the program.
The election is November 8 with Early Voting beginning October 24.
