......

Well-gone One, I am your mother,

But, Brave One, You are my father,
Gotama the Refuge, Giver of Dhamma Supreme
Happiness, I am the one borne from You.

161

Well-gone One, Your temporal body

Was brought up by me
But my faultless Dhamma body
Was brought up by You.

162

.

.

Lord, You are the one who suckled milk from me

Which had calmed Your hunger for a moment.
But I am the one who suckled Dhamma-milk from You
Which gave me peace everlasting.

163

Great Muni, to me, You are free from debt

Because of my bringing You up with great affection.
Women, longing for a child
Beget such a son after prayed for one.

164

Any mother of kings, like King Mandhatu,

Immersed is she in the sea of endless existence
Noble Son, I who once sank,
You have already taken me across the sea of rebirths.

165

The name of the kings queen mother,

Women can easily obtain,
This very name, the Mother of a Buddha
Can be obtained with the greatest of difficulties.

166

Great Brave One, that very name

I have already obtained,
My aspirations, great or small, have been granted by You,
And all have been fulfilled within me.

167

I wish to abandon this body for the supreme Nibbana,

Brave One, Leader of the World,
And Vanquisher of All Sufferings,
May You grant me this wish.

168

Supreme Son, please extend Your august feet,

Whose soles, like lotus soft,
Showing symbols of wheel, hook and victory flag,
I shall humbly salute.

169

Leader of the World, please reveal Your body in splendour

Like a heap of gold.
Privileged to witness such a marvel,
I shall proceed to the state of Peaceful Tranquillity.

170

.

.

The Great Victor revealed his splendour body,

Marked with the thirty-two auspicious signs,
With Glorious light to His aunt Gotami,
Shining like the soft rays through a twilight cloud.

171

Then she bent her head down at His august feet

Marked with the sign of the wheel
As if a lotus in full bloom
Shining like the sun of dawn.

172

Lord, the Sun of Humankind,

At my final death,

I humbly salute You, the banner of the Solar lineage,
I shall not see You again.

173

Supreme Lord of the world,

Women are known as origin of every flaw.
If such a flaw is still within me,
I implore You, Lord of All Compassion, forgive me.

174

In time past, I humbly begged You, over and over again,

For the ordination of women.
If such a request an error constitutes,
May You, Lord of Humankind, forgive me.

175

Brave One, I have instructed Bhikkhunis

According to Your permission.
If my instructions are flawed,

May You, Lord of Enduring Patience, forgive me.

176

Gotami, in whom virtues abound,

How to forgive something already faultless?
What more can I say
While you are at the threshold of Nibbana?

177

When my Order of Bhikkhus is immaculate and pure,

Your departure from this world is timely, my aunt,
As if the arising day pales the constellations of the stars.
One cannot see but the moon, which in her turn is fading.

178

Bhikkhunis, except the Great Gotami,

Like the stars followed the moon around Mount Sumeru,
Circumambulating the Victorious Lord,
Prostrating at His feet and gazing at His face.

179

()
.

Seeing You, my eyes remained unquenched,

Hearing Youruttereances, my ears never tire,
Only my mind, and this alone,
Is quenched by the taste of Dhamma which I have attained.

180

Lord, the Leader, Tamer of those in need to be tamed,

Your glorious call reverberates over the faithful
Those having the opportunity to gaze at Your face,
Those are among the ones blessed.

181

Virtuous One, those prostrating at your august feet,

Feet with toes elongated, with red nails
With heels beautifully extended,
Those are among the ones blessed.

182

Supreme Lord, those who have heard Your words,

Honey-like, captivating, and devoid of perfidy,
And supremely beneficial,
Those are among the ones blessed.

183

Brave One, I am a person blessed,

Having humbly prostrated at Your Feet.
And having crossed the wild and troubled cycles of rebirths,
Thanks to the wise words of Your gracious splendour.

184

:-

Then, Great Gotami, the nun of exemplary gracefulness,

Having uttered to the Order of Bhikkhus,
Saluted VenerablesRahula, Ananda, and Nanda
And made the following remarks

185

.

.

I feel tire of this worthless body,

A venomous receptacle,
A focus of diseases and sufferings.
An abode of aging and death.

186

.

...

Soiled with multiple stains and demerits,

Weakened to the point of leaning on anothers help,
For this reason, I wish to attain Nibbana
My sons, please, give me leave ...
