SEISMIC SITE RESPONSE ANALYSIS

Attenuation Relationships
An attenuation provides a relationship between
earthquake properties (e.g., peak ground acceleration)
and various parameters such as magnitude, soil
conditions, site-to-source distance, etc.
The attenuation of seismic waves is a function of a
number of variables which can be categorized as :
source mechanism, travel path, and local conditions.
Source mechanism : rupture dimension, strain
conditions, and source depth. Travel path : geometric
spreading, reflection, refraction, absorption, and
geologic structure. Local conditions : subsurface
conditions, toporgaphic variations, soil structure
interaction.
