About
This district is a part of the tribal belt in southern Odisha. As the word 'tribal' often
denotes a negative connotation, the indigenous people here prefer to be known as
'Adivasis'. Being at the heart of tribal belt in South Odisha, it has also many hill
stations though they are not that famous as other hill stations of India. Places like
Machkund, Onukadelli, Jalaput, Chindri, Hatipathar,(Deomali) Potangi etc. are places
to be visited for their scenic beauty. Weekly markets - Opportunity to visit one of the
many weekly markets or "haats". Enjoy the sights, sounds and aromas as local tribal
people barter, buy and sell their excess produce and stock. Many handicrafts are
available from colourful saris, handmade textiles in traditional patterns and earthy
tones to exclusive jewelery pieces. Explore Terracotta pottery, making and firing in
the village. Throw some clay on the wheel. Walk the cross-country route with the
locals from Goudaguda and surrounding villages to the Kakiriguma market (3 kms)
held every Monday under a canopy of old mango trees.
Village Visit - Guided tour by a local to give an insight into daily village life of
Goudaguda. One even has option to spend the day with the potters.
