CHALLENGES FACING ENERGY PRODUCERS

To cope with major changes in legislation, climate and population,
operators of thermal power plants (coal, lignite, fuel oil, gas, biomass,
nuclear and solar) must meet two objectives:
Maintain or improve the competitive advantage of their
production plant. One way is by controlling water quality at
different points in the application.
Conform to increasing environmental and health constraints.

Whether used to feed the low or high temperature reservoirs,

producing water to a high quality standard or in high quantities
(depending on requirements) has a strong impact on any facility's
energy efficiency.
The solution is to choose and/or optimise the water treatment
process in response to available water resources and the potential
environmental impact within the larger picture of sustainable
development.
Technical constraints

Low temperature reservoir

Cooling system

Corrosion and scale in the condenser, clogged packing in the cooling towers,
meeting water demand, suspended solids, total alkalinity, total hardness,
phenolphthalein alkalinity, controlling legionella.

High temperature reservoir

"Steam" circuit

Availability of water, conductivity, silica and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content.

PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT
Ondeo Industrial Solutions supports industry as part of its move towards
sustainable development by offering innovative, leading-edge solutions covering
the following three key areas:
Rational management of the water resource: reduced use of water
and chemicals, optimisation of processes encouraging energy recovery, and
solutions for reusing and recycling water.
Minimised impact on the ecosystem: compliant installations, reduced use
of chemicals, increased recycling, and limited discharges both in terms of
volume and flow.
Protection and development of human resources: ergonomic
installations, minimal sound pollution, strict health, quality and safety policy.

Therefore, you can take real steps towards a sustainable

development, while focusing on your core business
producing energy.

Flexible solution for producing 168 m/h
of demineralised water from sea water or surface
water, where the type of water can be changed
in two hours, ensuring a fully standalone water
production system and streamlined operating
costs.

"We enjoy a good relationship

with Ondeo IS, and any problem that
may occasionally occur on site can
be resolved promptly and efficiently."

Installation in a highly size-restricted city location
(180 m) of a plant producing 300 m/h of reverse
osmosis water, offering the customer a flexible
space solution.
At two other power plants equiped with co-gene
ration systems (2 125 MW electricity), Ondeo IS
has also provided a fast demineralised water supply
for the recovery boilers (600 m/h for both sites).

"Ondeo IS did the impossible:

producing large volumes of demineralised
water in a location with a small footprint."

End-to-end operation and maintenance for an

effective start to production, with steam generation
of 1200 tons/hour and a streamlined consumption
capacity, resulting in a substantial reduction in the
ratio of waste used for each ton of team produced.

"Thanks to you, our power plant started

on schedule. We are certain of the
facility's reliability and we have ramped up
steam and electricity production with
no extra water usage!"

Italy, gas power plant

Construction of a treatment plant to produce
545 m/h of demineralised water from surface water
via an innovative treatment process combining
double pass reverse osmosis with ultrafiltration.

"Ondeo IS suggested a new technology for

our power plant, and we are happy to have
agreed to work in partnership with them
in building a plant that we both consider
to set the gold standard!"

Belgium, nuclear power plant

Construction of a new facility for treating ammoniarich condensate through high-pressure reverse
