IYPES SEAMLESS PIPE Pipe produced by piercing a billet followed by rolling or drawing or both. WELDED PIPE There are several categories based on theit manufacturing process. i) Electric_resistance-welded pipe: Pipe produced in individual lengths or in continuous lengths from coiled skelp and subsequently cut into individual lengths, having longitudinal butt joint, wherein coalescence is produced by the heat obtained from resistance of the pipe to flow of electric current in a circuit of which the pipe is a part and by the application of pressure. ii) Eurmace butt welded pipe, continuous welded: Pipe produced in continuous lengths from coiled skelp and subsequently cut into individual lengths, having its Tongitudinal butt joint forge welded by the mechanical pressure developed in passing the hot formed and edge-heated skelp through a set of round pass welding rolls. i) Electric fusion welded _pipe: Pipe having a longitudinal butt joint wherein coalescence is produced in the preformed tube by manual or automatic electric — arc welding. The weld may be single (welded from one side) or double (welded from inside and outside) and may be made with or without the addition of filler metal. iv) Double submerged-are welded pipe: Pipe having a longitudinal butt joint produced by at least two passes, one of which is on the inside of the pipe. Coalescence is produced by heating with an electric arc or arcs between the bare metal electrode or electrodes and the work. The welding is shielded by a blanket of granular fusible material on the work. Pressure is not used and filler metal for the inside and outside welds is obtained from the electrode or electrodes. ¥) — Spiral_welded pipe: Pipe having a helical seam with either a butt, lap, or lockseam joint which is welded using either an electrical resistance, electric fusion or double-submerged arc welding process. PIPE - DIMENSIONS Pipe is customarily identified by Nominal Pipe Size, with wall thickness. Non standard pipe is specified by Nominal size with wall thickness. In general NPS is equal to the true bore (Internal Diameter) of the pipe ~ the difference in sum instances is large. NPS 14” & larger pipe has outside diameter equal to the Nominal Pipe Size. The dimensions of the pipe shall be as per the following dimensional standards: ASME B36.10 — standard for dimension of wrought steel and wrought iron. ASME B36.19 — standard for dimension of stainless steel pipes.
