Balaam and His Talking Donkey

Numbers 22
Walking in Obedience
1. Avoid Enticements
- The best way to walk in obedience is to avoid the thing that would
cause us to disobey.
- The enemy wants to try and lead you away from God with things that
seem appealing.
- If Balsam wouldnt have been enticed he never would have disobeyed
God.
- Numbers 22:16-17 - They came to Balaam and said:
This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Do not let anything keep you
from coming to me, because I will reward you handsomely and do
whatever you say. Come and put a curse on these people for me.
- Balaam then went back and asked God again. Story about asking
both mom and dad.
- Matthew 26:41 - Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation:
the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
2. Notice His Signs - God will give us signs along the way when we arent obeying what He
has for us.
- Story about sign
- 1 Corinthians 10:13 - There has no temptation taken you but such as
is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also
make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
- For Balaam what was it? The donkey!
What's your talking donkey?
- Jeremiah 31:21 - Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Mark well the
path by which you came.
3. Ignore Pressure
- As we begin to put up our signs and watch out for our talking donkeys
there will still be voices that try and make us second guess Gods plan
and go back to our own way.
- We see in the story that even after Balaam encounters the angel and
realizes his error, the king still tries to get Balaam to second guess
himself.

- We have to ignore those voices and focus on the voice of God. We do

this by reading the word, praying, and worshiping.
- James 1:12 - Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he
is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised
to them that love him.
