When we use these terms in the media we are usually talking about products or
audiences. Write down the tutor definitions from the board in the corresponding
boxes.

Mainstream products are made to please and appeal to large audiences around
the world of age, gender
Independent
Products not made by big companies. They often tend to be more alternative
and willing to takes risks. Aimed at smaller audiences than mainstream
Niche
products.
Specialist products for small audiences.
In the table below find at least two example products for each category (name
and image). Then make a list of why they fit into that category. Be ready to
feedback to the rest of the class...
