The art of forgetting

There is no permanent legacy that a simple and common person can leave in this
world. Maybe it is depressing to know that even if a person works hard to create
something that can improve humanitys life, when a long time passes by nobody
would ever talk about him or her. Unless a person is extraordinary, famous, and
persistent, his or her glory would be just good for at least a millennium or even
maybe decades. However, whatever we do is good and worth remembering only for
our lifetime, and there is nothing we can do to change that way.
In the first place, is it necessary for the world to remember us? After all, our lives
are just milliseconds in a 24-hour clock that continuously runs until its battery runs
out of charge. We are just a grain in millions of tons of sand on the seaside. Most of
us are just newly sprouted leaves in a rainforest. If we fall off the branch, are we not
just going to rot and to unify with the soil?
If the world works in such a way we just come and go, would not it be better if we
ourselves forget that we once existed on this planet? We are afraid of death
because we feel unsecure of our identities, that we will be forgotten as time
continues its travel towards infinity. And if we forget ourselves the way other people
tend to forget who we are, we will not be afraid of death anymore and we will be
ready to embrace it any time in our lives.
But if we forget ourselves, would not it be selfish? Yet, if we forget ourselves we are
freeing our own insanities and insecurities dwelling in the depths of our minds. It
wont be there anymore, our sanity will occupy what was left empty and will
overtake our perception of fantasy into reality. In the end, forgetting is forgiving
ourselves for doing things we periodically do to satisfy other peoples expectations
that in return they wont forget us.
The life we have is full of question, but as we traverse the path to uncertainty we
will eventually forget why we took that road in the first place.
