Current Events Guidelines

Keeping up with current events is a wonderful way to learn whats happening in our own local
community (Chicago), state (Illinois), and nation (USA) as well as other countries around the
world (international).
Each week a different student will be responsible for presenting a current event to the class.
To help with preparation and planning, students will be assigned a specific date.
All the expectations and guidelines are written below. Please read and follow them
carefully.
Select a current event article from one of the following websites or any current
magazine or newspaper (you may need some help from an adult). Select anything in
the news that interests you.
Read the article and discuss it with an adult.

Prepare for your Current Events Presentation

1. First, share with the class whether your current event is of local, national or
international significance.
2. Tell us where you found your article; what source did you use (specific website or
newspaper)
3. Without reading directly from your written summary, give the class a brief
summary of what the article was about. You should know it well
4. Then, ask the class if they have any questions about the article or your summary
when you are finished. Be prepared to answer factual questions about the article.
5. We will then post your article and interpretive questions to the Current Events
board for your classmates to respond.
