Our Rubber Compounds, Our Quality

The major compounds of rubber produced by Bridgestone consist of virgin
rubber, carbon black, sulfur, vulcanizing accelerators, anti-oxidants and
processing aids, without reclaimed rubber and calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
The use of reclaimed rubber and excessive amount of CaCO3 these
compounds are relatively cheap leads to the degradation of both the
physical properties and durability of fenders.
How can you identify a high-performance fender?
If excessive reclaimed rubber and CaCO3 are used, the density of the lowcost fender is usually larger than 1.20g/cc, as these compounds are
generally denser. The densities for various compounds are as follows:
Compound

Density

Virgin Rubber

0.91 ~ 0.94 g/cc

Reclaimed Rubber

1.15 ~ 1.35 g/cc

Carbon Black

1.74 ~ 1.86 g/cc

CaCO3

2.7 g/cc

Clay (Si, Al)

2.0 ~ 2.7 g/cc

What can you do to ensure what you buy is exactly what you intend?
Bridgestone recommends that port owners request for rubber compound
analysis. Approximately 5 grams of rubber is to be cut from the fender body
and sent to an internationally recognized third party laboratory for testing in
accordance with the test standards as follows:
