(Forprojectstostartin2017)
1.OutlineandMission
The Asahi Glass Foundation has supported overseas research projects at Chulalongkorn
University(CU)inThailandsince1982,attheInstitutTeknologiBandung(ITB)inIndonesia
since1988,andatKingMongkutsUniversityofTechnologyThonburi(KMUTT)since2012.
TheFoundationhopestocontribute,throughitsprogramsforpromotingscienceandtechnology,
totheindustrial,economicalandsocialprogressofthesecountries.
2.ResearchFieldstobesupported
The Overseas Research Grants provide financial support for outstanding original research
projectscontributingtothedevelopmentinscienceandtechnology.Themajorfieldsofresearch
supported are Materials Sciences, Life Sciences, Information Sciences and Automatic
Control,Environment,andEnergy.
3.Eligibility
Applicants must be researchers at CU, ITB, and KMUTT who are personally engaged in
graduatelevelresearchprojectsinfacultiesorresearchinstitutesrespectivelyaffiliatedwith
theseuniversities.
4.Applications
41. Deadline
Applicationformsshouldbesubmittedto therespectiveuniversityscreeningcommittee
nolaterthanOctober28,2016.
42. BudgetandDuration
Thebudgetforthegrantwillbeapproximately500,000700,000Japaneseyenperproject,
whichwillbedecidedby thescreeningcommitteeofeachUniversity. Thetermofthe
project will be 1 to 2 years beginning June 2017. The funds will be remitted by the
FoundationinJune2017irrespectiveofthedurationofresearchoftheindividualprojects
accepted.
ThetotalbudgetforeachUniversitywillbenoticedfromtheFoundationannually.

(1)Instruments,devicesand/orapparatus
(2)Laboratorysuppliesand/orexperimentalreagents
(3)Travelexpenses

(4)Miscellaneous(printing,communications,etc.)
(5)Remunerationforgraduatestudentswhoareparticipatingintheproposedresearch
(max20%)
5.ScreeningProcess
(1) The CU,ITB,andKMUTT screening committees shallsubmit alist ofall submitted
applications andallscreeningcommitteememberstotheFoundation byNovember4,
2016,andshallimmediatelybeginameritreviewscoringprocess.
(2) The criteria for scoring should be based upon originality, academic and/or social
significance,andpracticabilityoftheproposal.
(3) ThefinalscreeningcommitteesshallbeheldinDecember,2016andthecommitteesshall
sendthefinallistofproposalsrecommendedforgrant,togetherwithdossierscontaining
the application forms, photos of expected grant recipients and the results of their
evaluationstotheFoundationbyDecember28,2016.
(4) TheSelectionCommitteeandtheBoardofDirectorsoftheFoundationwillstudythe
recommendedproposals,andthelistofrecipientstobeawardedgrantswillbeannounced
toeachuniversitybytheendofApril2017.
6.Reports
(1) Aftercompletionoftheproject,thegrantrecipientwillsubmitaresearchreporttothe
Foundationpreparedbyfollowingaspecifiedformat,andthesubmittedpaperswillbe
publishedintheReportofGrantSupportedResearch,TheAsahiGlassFoundation,issued
annually.
(2) Incase,resultsofgrantsupportedresearcharetobepublishedinscientificjournalsby
grantrecipients,acknowledgementshouldbeincludedinthefollowingway.
