Approach: an approach is based on ones beliefs and assumptions about

the nature of language and the nature of teaching and learning. An approach
has a philosophical background and is a broad concept. It can be put into
practice through different methods.
Example: the belief that language is an innate capacity (Cognitive
Approach)
Method: it is the way we put an approach into practice. That means that a
method is based on a particular approach.
Examples of methods may be audiolingualism, the Direct Method.
Techniques: specific procedures and strategies that we implement in the
classroom. They have to be consistent with the method and, therefore, with
the approach. We can define technique as the practical realization of a
method.
Examples: drillings, role-play, etc.

We choose to teach in a particular way (method) based on our ideas and

what we believe in (approach), and we use specific strategies to put that
into practice in all of our classes (techniques).
